Found a really nice cello version of "The Rains of Castamere" to play during the signing of the register. There was some distinctly nervous laughter going on behind us....

Hah, boats in driveways are common here but they're very much in use and I guess keeping them on the trailer is cheaper than in the marina (largely reserved for boats with bloody great masts).

One of the joys of being allergic to onions is that I never have to worry about this while cooking!

Used to work with someone who was involved in containing an outbreak of New World screwworm that popped up in Libya in the late 80s - had a big bronze plaque thanking him for his efforts. International cooperation at its finest. Interesting beasties but, yeah, nasty.

Onion-intolerant here - can do garlic, but leeks, scallions, chives, etc. are no-nos. Raw onion has a nasty burn that not everyone can tell from chilli (I can, happily), but there are plenty of other spices, and MSG can really lift things. Or just use flavored salt at the table like my husband does.

Went to Emirates yesterday to raid the shop and see the Wenger statue. Apparently we now have something new to watch when we get back to NZ! :D ⚽️

Uuuuuurgh. It's like the current bunch of muppets have been looking at the shitshow of Tory Britain and deciding that they want a bit more of THAT action. Hopefully, they'll be gone soon. *crosses everything *

Oh look, it's my home town. And people wonder why I'm so happy to be in New Zealand.

We're in New Zealand - day booked off work, popcorn at the ready for 9am close of polls. :D

That would never fly in NZ! They're not quite compulsory, but sometimes I wonder....

When we were moving to AoNZ (from UK), we asked a Kiwi friend for any cultural quirks that don't usually get mentioned and this was the big one. Eye-opening - when I was a kid, my mum's favourite place to sit was the kitchen counter; would never have occurred that it was an NZ no-no. Thanks, Fliss!
