His approval ratings are his power. That's why the pov kept switching to the rest of the Pentagram, to see the public's opinion. When Charlie said he was right & powerful the screens behind him showed big "100%" images for his approval rating.

He doesn't think straight at all. He's got two duck shaped brain cells left and neither of them can conceive of anything worse happening to him, personally, that hasn't already.
If it had been Charlie in the wheelie chair he would have reacted very differently... and probably made a bad decision 😩

Canon is the main body of accepted text. Outside of that it is apocrypha. Apocrypha can become canon when laid out as an in-world part of the story.
It is not bad writing for a writer to change something not yet published. Collab with a team WILL change things, for better or worse.

For example. The script was clearly indicating that Val is from Puerto Rico. But Perez ad libbed "I'm from fucking Florida". It was funny, it was kept in. Now Val is from Florida. Any idea anyone had that he was from elsewhere, even Viv, is now inconsistent with published canon.

You can be annoyed a character wasn't what you expected, & made decisions you didn't expect them to make. But whatever you built in your head is not what was in the head of Viv, the animators, the composer, or the voice actors. Ultimately, the story is built & the facts are laid down by a team.

Were there inconsistencies with S1? Maybe. I would not have thought the Sin of Pride would be seen dead in his dressing gown & rollers squabbling with an Overlord. But it was a quick way to say a lot. Plus the dude has depression, it can do a number on a person's pride & vanity.

That's nonsense. Husk stops Angel drinking a spiked cocktail. The villains sell love potions, & drug & hypnotise people. And Asmodeus, the Sin of Lust, says love potions are awful & he doesn't deal in them (I know that's HB, but same universe).
