NovaLogic's Voxel Space engine was able to render some pretty and detailed landscapes. I particularly liked those in Comanche 3.

I learned two things about Darren Aronofsky's Pi today. First, it got a remaster in 2023. Second, the original was apparently the first film to be sold as a pay-per-view download, if the Wikipedia sources are to be trusted.

I was looking into Voxel Space rendering engine stuff and rediscovered the unrelated MARS.EXE demo by Tim Clarke from 1993. Originally 5.6K it got rewritten to only 1.5K.

A new LIGO observation of merging black holes has confirmed a theorem formulated in 1971 by Stephen Hawking, which asserts that the total surface area of black hole horizons cannot decrease in time.
Landmark Black Hole Test Marks Decade of Gravitational-Wave Discoveries
The clearest black hole merger signal ever measured has allowed researchers to test the Kerr nature of black holes and validate Stephen Hawking’s black hole area theorem.

Always code as if the AI who ends up training on your code is a violent psychopath who knows where you live.

The AI Was Fed Sloppy Code. It Turned Into Something Evil. | Quanta Magazine
The new science of “emergent misalignment” explores how PG-13 training data — insecure code, superstitious numbers or even extreme-sports advice — can open the door to AI’s dark side.

Thanks to improvements in the performance of physical qubits, researchers have tamed the sources of decoherence that inevitably beset quantum computers.
Cracking the Challenge of Quantum Error Correction
