I report on the offshore wind industry, police misconduct and some other stuff for the New Bedford Light | signal: aelennon.65 | alennon@newbedfordlight.org | newbedfordlight.org
🚨An Obama-appointed judge just granted BOEM's motion for a remand of the SouthCoast Wind construction + operations approval. The project earned this permit in the final days of the Biden admin., but was without other key federal permits when Trump took office @newbedfordlight.bsky.social

Still waiting on FERC data for Vineyard Wind, but South Fork Wind's data for Q3 (July, Aug, Sept) just dropped. It sold about 84,000 MWH of energy over that period. Calculation for Long Island, NY, homes powered: ~39,200 homes @newbedfordlight.bsky.social

Yesterday on the approach to JFK, I spotted Empire Wind’s construction progress. Lots of transition pieces are in:

🚨BOEM today filed a motion to remand SouthCoast Wind's COP approval. This reflects the significant role lawsuits against offshore wind projects are now playing in the efforts to halt project development. This suit was brought by the Town of Nantucket:

In recent filings for Revolution Wind, the fed gov discusses possible remand of the project's COP. This isn't entirely surprising, given the mandated review of pending litigation, but this is the first I've seen it discussed explicitly for Revolution Wind: storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.us...

17 states are about to argue that Trump's wind memo is unlawful + must be lifted. Since the last hearing in June, the Trump admin has taken 12+ actions against OSW, incl. a stop-work order on Revolution Wind, and plans to revoke approvals for 2 Mass. projects. @newbedfordlight.bsky.social

Ahead of Thurs. hearing for @massago.bsky.social suit, here's a comprehensive review of the actions the Trump administration has taken against offshore wind since Jan., and the impacts they've had to date. Let me know if I missed any @newbedfordlight.bsky.social newbedfordlight.org/trumps-war-o...

In case you missed it, @newbedfordlight.bsky.social published a graphic to make sense of the phaseout of IRA credits under the "One Big Beautiful Bill" and what the new and truncated deadlines could mean for offshore wind projects in Massachusetts:

In Boston for the motion hearing on whether to dismiss the multistate lawsuit against Trump's memo freezing offshore wind permitting + leasing. The Trump admin argues the states have no standing and that the lifting of the memo would not de facto lead to an issuance of outstanding project permits.

Back in Boston for today’s motion hearing on whether to dismiss the multistate lawsuit against Trump’s memo freezing offshore wind permitting and leasing. Starts at 11 @newbedfordlight.bsky.social

A hot morning in Boston. About to head into the courthouse for an 11 a.m. hearing for the preliminary injunction 18 AGs are seeking, including @massago.bsky.social, against Trump’s memorandum freezing offshore wind permitting, an action that has already had impacts on the industry, officials say

We've updated our living offshore wind project tracker once again -- this time for Empire Wind after Interior/BOEM lifted the stop work order last night @newbedfordlight.bsky.social: newbedfordlight.org/offshore-win...

🚨INBOX: Trump administration does a 180 and drops its stop work order against Empire Wind. The project off New York is allowed to resume construction @newbedfordlight.bsky.social:

🚨BREAKING: Juan Francisco Méndez has just been released, one month after his dramatic arrest in New Bedford — first reported by @newbedfordlight.bsky.social. Photo taken just this evening by my colleague, Eleonora Bianchi, in Burlington.

I’ve been in Virginia, where they’re building out the country’s largest offshore wind farm, for an industry conference. Though industry reps voice optimism, this year’s meeting feels markedly different. Why? Federal scientists and regulators are missing (even though they were invited).

A Nantucket group petitioning the EPA to rescind a permit for Vineyard Wind, yesterday filed a petition with the feds, asking BOEM to revoke the revised construction and operations permit it issued in January to allow the project to resume installation after the blade failure:

Power contracts with Massachusetts and offshore wind developers have been delayed *again*. Today's deadline has been pushed to June 30. Mass. Department of Energy Resources statement suggests hostile Trump admin (and his executive order) is playing a role

The Town of Nantucket is asking BOEM to undertake new reviews of the environmental permitting of the project -- a review that can take years.

Hundreds attended today’s Stand Up For Science rally in Woods Hole, where many scientific institutions, including NOAA Fisheries, sit.
