Field trips don't have to be about guided tours. Organic conversations can lead to learning and wondering - wonderings that can lead to more learning. This was a self-guided/self-exploration visit. Through conversations, we learned so much!

In the end we looked at the new Birdsong & Bough exhibit, talking about the pretty Christmas trees and the different themes. We noticed the cards on each tree, striking up a conversation about them.

We finally found the coconut tree! We wondered if it would ever grow coconuts. We noticed this really cool flower and I shared how it reminded me of a talking flower just like this in a Disney movie.

We watched the koi for a good 20 minutes and I listened as a that same student talked about koi; then, with another student, we talked about the colours and patterns.

Then we talked about all spice and tumeric; specifically how tumeric can be used as medicine.

I am not a math teacher, but taught grade 9 math for 8 years. I went to a lot of PD, sat with math teachers/support. Learned about concepts, pedagogy, etc. My experiences as a math student has helped my students a lot.

I have weeds growing in my yard, and my native plants are flowering. Not good.

And a lot of experience in content comes from doing. A lot of PD, a lot of workshops, a lot of collaboration. Just like any other job.
