Today I've learned about Belarusian gobelin weaving, the hydrangea season in Japan, and how to say "my garden is teeming with insects" from a native speaker. ✨

It's "In meinen Gerten wimmelt es vor Inseklen", if you're curious. ☺️

I also received this gorgeous card from one of my penpals in Tokyo.

Behold! Passiflora incarnata, better known as passionflower, and to some, maypop or even wild apricot! Today, while working under the floppy canopy, I'd hoped I'd found every hungry ant who found her way on to me... unfortunately, hours later at my desk, I'm finding that it was not quite the case...

I've been off for two weeks. How's it been, friends? 💙 I'd love to hear your updates.

Some treasures from the garden for you.

Oh I knew we had even more in common... Thank you so much for sharing this 🥰 My masters thesis focused on hospitality towards the religious "other" and specifically sharing food... Due to restrictions guess what kind of cooking is most inclusive for mixed faith groups? Oh you guessed it! Vegan!

Rainbow Loveliness Dianthus (Barbatus)

The white variant is such a surprise!

Genus name comes from the Greek words dios meaning divine and anthos meaning flower

Like Sweet William, it's non-native to North America, so I am very careful with confining it

Ok I know this doesn't look like much of anything but I just removed SO MUCH baby crabgrass from the pollinator patch

The flashy red males get a lot of attention, but I think then Scarlet and Summer Tanager ladies are just gorgeous 💛

I know what you mean 😭! That is a great question thank you!! We use metal "Squirrel Baffles". They wrap around and attach to the feeder pole and typically cost between $15 and $30. We got ours from Wild Birds Unlimited and they are very durable. Here are some example photos.

Good morning!! Very excited to see a young Downy Woodpecker with a copper head at the feeder!

Adult Downy males typically only have a red patch on the back of their head, and female Downies have no red at all.

Now, time to brew. ☕🍵

To my friends looking for more nature and original photography on your skyline, let me please recommend:

@carlbovisnature.bsky.social

He's a very kind person, loves the Earth and birds, and takes beautiful photos.

Carl has a following on Twitter but is still getting established here. ♥️

The thing about growing my own salad greens is that harvesting takes a LOT of time because I'm constantly finding new friends among the leaves

I love this Devin, thank you.

This morning I am thankful for water. Evergreen gratitude there. I'm grateful for the flowers in my yard and all the little insects. The House finches at the feeders. The Red-bellied woodpecker who lives in my neighbor's tree. The lacy white blossoms of the elderberry.

Observe the beautiful Safflower, one of humanity's oldest crops! This one was born from seed scattered by wild birds at the feeders. I used to pull up the emerging plants mercilessly, until I learned that they produce beautiful thistle-like golden flowers! Now I'm excited to see the rest bloom.

That's so wonderful @aliafonzy.bsky.social and I am not surprised in the slightest! You are phenomenal.

I got my start in Python too. 💗 Ran PyLadies ATL. Also organized Atlanta's first Django Girls workshop in 2015 🥰
