I know there’s other stuff at work here, and I'm not denying the rank hypocrisy and victimhood she clearly adores.

But more than anything, truly, this woman is profoundly unwell. Like, really, really in need of help. The photos are gruesome. This isn't just a stunt; she's clearly in crisis.

Got my Covid booster shot + flu vaccine yesterday, and while I'm super into walking through plagues unscathed, my poor little arm hurts today and I think maybe I deserve a tiny treat. Like a hot chocolate, or this $870 green evening dress which I could wear while doing the vacuuming.

I think it's a Garuda! Super powerful good-luck guardian who will protect you from serpents. They're hideous little gargoyles who will 100% fuck up your enemies. My family lived in Indonesia and adopted this cute little monster, and none of us have ever been bitten by snakes. Scientific proof.

The pics/video are really crummy quality, but if you increase the contrast a little, it becomes pretty clear that it ain't the Jolly Roger.

That, and the fact that he has apparently referred to it casually in the past as "my totenkopf". Not great. Not...not great.

I mean, speaking frankly, she married this shitbird, so she's probably not my cup of tea, but I'm still 100% rooting for her in this scenario. She made a great call in eliminating this racist waste from her life.

It came as a direct response to Trump himself reposting AI images of himself in a gaudy crown and signing off a social media post with "LONG LIVE THE KING!"

It seems like a completely unsourced factoid, though? I can't find any info on who they surveyed, or any data at all that actually backs it up.

People are extremely, impressively dumb, so it might be true. But it could also just be made-up nonsense?

It's from last year, so not new-new, but I've been cooking a lot from Emiko Davies' Gohan this summer. Right now I just want simplicity and zero lectures, and it's perfect. It's friendly and low-key, and Davies clearly knows how to write recipes that actually work -- that's honestly rare!

Apparently the committee's spokesperson has confirmed that the subpoenas *will* be issued.

There's no info as to a timeline on that yet, so it’s worth keeping an eye on. But I doubt Comer wants to be the guy left without a chair in this debacle. We'll see, I guess.

I think a lot about C.S. Lewis's On Living in an Atomic Age. He points out that we're all doomed, all of us, and we have been since the moment of our birth. The point is what to do with the life we DO have, even though human civillisation as a whole has always been marked for extinction.

Doug Emhoff was vehemently against his firm doing any deal with the Trump administration in any way, and said so both privately and publicly. Personally, I think he should straight-up quit, but that isn't my call. Nor, more pointedly, is it Harris's.

Your beautiful pup with the black speckles -- may I ask what kind it is? It reminds me so much of my own dog Tilda, just a little darker and more velvety-looking. (Embark told us Tilda's ½ bluetick coonhound, and I wonder if yours might be too.)

What a nice crew you have!

I was just smugly reading about methodology for this study, and then saw with horror that they asked people to identify weblinks to phone numbers.

That is deeply, existentially offensive to this millennial. I NEVER want to find an organisation's phone number.

When I lived in Florence, there was a little toyshop down the street that offered Popemobiles for sale next to fire engines and carabinieri cars, like of course kids want Popemobile toys, of course they do.

Italy is so wonderful that sometimes you forget how delightfully weird it is.

Oh yeah. Political courage gets you money, baby.

For clarity: I am referring very specifically to the photo you posted.

It's worth looking at the AFP analysis I linked to earlier. They found the original photos from which the faked elements were extracted (Hitler reversed and arm swivelled, Goebbels and Braun clumsily inserted from other images).

The person I was responding to seems to think the photo is real?
April 12, 2025 at 2:11 AM
Apparently Emhoff was vehemently against it, so that's something.

It really is an astonishingly great tool. Microplaning ginger with one of their regular rasp graters makes me want to weep with rage and frustration as it shreds into fibers and lumps.

But this baby? Oh, it's perfect. A dream. My mother was right. I'm so annoyed.

I could watch Britt Lower contemptuously say "Yeah, no shit," on a constant loop for the rest of my life. That dame can deliver a line.

You see someone like Lower get cast in Severance, and you realize how many lethally talented actors out there just never get their shot. Thank god someone saw her.

If you're feeling overwhelmed by the hordes, treat yourself to a low-key meander across the river in the Oltrarno. The best gelato in Florence is a little spot in the tiny, friendly Piazza della Passera near the Ponte Vecchio. Open late for an after-dinner treat. Their pear gelato is my favourite.

I lived in Florence during the pandemic, and visited the Uffizi on the first day that lockdowns ended, because it’s usually a monstrous, pandemoniac bun-fight. Turned out I was only one of six people in the whole gallery. Beautiful and weird as hell.

Hope you're getting the good gelato!
