My latest Aronov lab paper is now published @Nature!

When a chickadee looks at a distant location, the same place cells activate as if it were actually there 👁️

The hippocampus encodes where the bird is looking, AND what it expects to see next -- enabling spatial reasoning from afar

it’s time, EMPSEB begins tomorrow! Follow our conference account to get updates on all the cool science and community-finding that will happen at this cozy, almost*-all-PhD-student conference 😊 (*except for our wonderful invited speakers, of course)
The time has finally come to meet the people behind EMPSEB30! 🤩 First up is @gauravathreya.bsky.social from the University of Mainz in Germany. His responsibilities include managing the website and organising the EDI panel.

Many insects rely on polarized light for orientation. Photoreceptors specialized to detect polarized light are coupled (spatial summation) which increases the receptive fields' effect sizes. 🐝

Electrophysiological recordings reveal photoreceptor coupling in the dorsal rim areas of honeybee and bumblebee eyes
Many insects rely on skylight polarization patterns to navigate their habitats. To perform this vital task, most insect species have evolved specialized ommatidia in the dorsal rim area (DRA) of their...

Snake venom protection by a cocktail of varespladib and broadly neutralizing human antibodies
To combat snake bites from diverse species, this work identifies broadly neutralizing antibodies from a donor hyperimmune to snake venom, and it demonstrates that a combination of two of the identifie...
