There's an article making the rounds about how men "just want to be heroes". And in response, I was asked to bring my God & Guns thread, about what it means to protect your family, over from the other place. So I did:
When I hear men worshipping guns and talking about how there’s nothing that will stop them from defending their family, my mind goes to Naaman in the Bible. Do you remember Naaman? He was a great military leader, and he also had leprosy.

I keep thinking this too, variations on “this is utterly unsustainable, surely it can’t continue this way”

I keep saying that I think this will end with either a coup, a secession, or a civil war, because this level of insanity and evil can't last very long. It has only been under a week, and the federal government seems to be run by malevolent middle schoolers who think actions have no consequences.

seems worth noting that a major subplot in A Christmas Carol involves Scrooge denying healthcare to his employees, and that Tiny Tim would have died had Scrooge not been shamed by ghosts into giving him coverage.
