This past Saturday marked 61 years since the birth of Chris Riley.

Chris played a pivotal role in Austin for so long, both on City Council and as an urbanist elder statesman inspiring the next generation.

I think of Chris often and miss him deeply. He'll be long remembered. Happy Birthday Chris!

Please consider following and supporting Safe Streets Austin: bsky.app/profile/safe...

I'm proud of our work at Safe Streets Austin. Whether it's fighting for tough bike lane projects, pushing for two-way street conversions downtown, or expanding our Living Streets program, we're always going!

By far the most important feedback you can give for the plan is to support it. But here's what I wrote for question 6, regarding other ideas for the plan:

In almost any given photo of a beautiful town, there you'll see single-stair buildings making that beauty possible.

This is from Wales.

Yesterday, Dallas passed extensive parking reform!

This will have enormously positive impacts across the city. I can't wait to see how it unfolds. Congrats to everyone who worked so hard on making this happen! 💪

This is neat. Tap your way from a regular auto-centric street to a beautiful shared street: 12m2.org/utapia/

Show this to your friends, neighbors, & electeds. We deserve this.

Very happy to see Boston taking inspiration from Austin removing all parking mandates in 2023 and other housing-friendly measures. Both cities are incredible, so it's great to see this exchange.

These 12 cars during downtown Austin rush hour are consuming an entire city block.

What a comically inefficient way to move people. 🤦‍♂️

The automobile as a form of mass transportation has failed. We know how to move far more people: Reallocating road space to bus lanes, bike lanes, and sidewalks.

A HUGE thanks to Texas State Representative Gina Hinojosa for writing this incredible letter to the federal government, expressing her profound concerns about the I-35 expansion.

Rep Hinojosa is the highest ranking official ever to write a public letter like this. Read the letter, it's amazing.

TxDOT wouldn't invite Rethink35 and the community to its I-35 expansion groundbreaking ceremony. So instead, we held a cookie-breaking ceremony using a cookie from the TxDOT event!

What an amazing #Rethink35 & community protest yesterday outside TxDOT's I-35 Central groundbreaking ceremony! Thank you to everyone who made it.

The message was again clear: I-35 expansion is unpopular. People want a better way.

Here are just some of the beautiful scenes from last Saturday's Willow Street block party here in Austin.

The City of Austin has repeatedly relaxed block party rules and the events are starting to flourish. ❤️

Block parties bring so much joy and hope. They should spread throughout the land.

THIS Wednesday at 2pm, join Rethink35 and the community to protest at TxDOT's I-35 expansion groundbreaking ceremony. I'll be there!

Let's get a huge crowd and show that the community is united against expansion.

"Highway agencies have enabled the blatant falsification of traffic model results. As a result, the US wastes billions on road expansions that fail to cure congestion and make it harder to get around without a car."

This'll make you mad, but it's a must-read: www.dissentmagazine.org/online_artic...

Block parties are one of the most powerful things you can do to build community.

If you live on a street that can host a block party, go for it! Hit me up for advice/support.
