Somerset/Dorset border happy amateur. Moths, meadows, hedges, bees, birds, fungi, slime moulds and so it goes on. Increasingly captivated by micros, leafminers & bagworms. Scythe enthusiast, pitching in at local nature restoration projects when I can.

Caroline Bulman explains action to save priority butterflies in Dorset, especially the Duke of Burgundy which is now found on only 6 small sites. It has died out from several nature reserves and requires careful management. Action is now being taken on the last few sites under a special grant.

Yellow-browed warbler calling and showing relatively well this morning at the Marsh's Bar entrance to Stourhead Wood. Nice way to start the day as I got out of the pick up.

Great to get the moth traps out again (2 x 20w Wemlite Skinner), first session in a potentially interesting looking patch in West Coker.
The hoped for Oak Beauty put in an appearance, plus usual quakers, March Moth & Diurena fagella. 10 Pammene giganteana to 'FUN' lure being the highlight.

Happy festive greetings from Luffia lapidella central! The beautiful larval casings of this tiny psychidae moth are really well spread across Yeovil. Over 50, (some crawling and feeding) on this coping stone alone. Wonderful stuff.

It's taken me ages to stumble across some this autumn, but finally, some slime mould at work today.
Love a slime mould.

More bagworm (Psychidae) fun in Yeovil. Another wall for Luffia lapidella, certainly well spread across the middle of Yeovil.
No fly over Hawfinch, yet............

And Phyllonorycter platani everywhere! ( well, wherever there was London Plane).

I'm assuming these Psychidae, which are well distributed on old buildings and old walls across Yeovil town centre are Luffia lapidella. Comments welcome please! Being serenaded by the calling of one of the local Peregrines made this a most enjoyable visit.

Biodiversity is "not just being able to see some butterflies" or a "nice to have"

Biodiversity is essential for fighting climate change, supporting our health and wellbeing, and allowing us to have sustainable food production.

Nice bit of woodpigeon migration going on here on the somerset/ Wiltshire border. Always a fascinating sight.

This one appeared to be inspecting the surface of the case of a deceased Psychidae.

Found these Psychidae in the middle of Loughborough this afternoon. Any ideas? Is it possible to get to species from these photo's? Was hoping they may be candidates for Dahlica triquetrella. Several old cases under the lip of the 'coping' stones.
