Archaeologist, Cornish and Irish, cook, baker, gardener, tin miner, photographer, very concerned about the planet, pretty left wing, woke.
Bluesky is becoming too much about 'me' and too little about 'us'. Agree?

There is stupid and there is Trump. There is greedy and venal and there is Trump. There is nasty and there is Trump.

Every week for the past two years I've made a cake for the Rosevale miners. Last week I made them speculaass biscuits for a change and to give me a break. I was thinking about tweaked mince pies this week, but I suspect that the lads will be disappointed. Should I give in and make them a cake?

Oops. It seems that the Rosevale deep Adit team dug into a backfilled stope in shit ground, which collapsed spectacularly. We now need to do some ground reinforcement before we can clear this mess and progress onwards. Still better down now than were we are metres beyond it, or were squashed by it.
November 15, 2025 at 8:21 PM
Like old miners we constantly read the ground as we dig out our deep Adit. We don't want to get buried either. Suspicious about a timbered section that was moving we removed a trench prop. A minute later, tons of backfill crashed down leaving twisted wood and tons of muck. Better down than deadly.

So maybe income tax up and employee's NI down in the budget? Hmmm. When you're on a pension you don't pay NI anymore, but you are liable for income tax. That'll go down well with older people then. It's been suggested that there's no point in increasing higher rate IT (dodged). Property tax then?

Just read, sorry devoured, Lamorna Ash's Dark, Salt, Clear - her book about her relationship with Newlyn and its fishermen. Best insight into what it's like to be Cornish I've read in ages. Excellent writing.

Charlie Kirk = becoming Horst Wessell? By the gun you live. By the gun you die dude.

A cabinet of terrified sycophants appears to surround DT in Washington. How insecure is this thick sap? Very by the looks of it. And these creeps need to go away and reflect on the degree to which they have abased themselves so embarrassingly.

If Donald Trump really wants the Nobel peace prize perhaps he could consider enacting Draconian gun laws in the USA. No-one but law enforcement officers, the military and registered hunters should be allowed to carry a weapon. No chance of that is there?

Red flag sprayers. We're not racist. It's patriotic. Oh yeah? Why not ask some of the large number of people who don't agree with you how they feel? Or minority groups in this country?
August 27, 2025 at 6:05 PM
Was there ever, in your experience, such an utterly thick and venal president of the united states as the
present incumbent? I thought Reagan was dumb as a plank, but Trump out Reagans him massively. He can barely string a sentence together, and what he says rarely makes any sense at all. Nasty too

How did we get to this, with Netenyahu and Putin killing tens of thousands of people at will and world leaders unable or unwilling to stop them? Meanwhile oil producers and processors burn the planet and poison the oceans for financial gain. WAKE UP PEOPLE!
August 25, 2025 at 5:46 PM
Is there a parallel planet I can go to where people aren't obsessed by hair, nails, lip and arse fillers, pink things, expensive shoes, football etc and where poor kids blown up by tank shells fired by sociopaths are more important? Cos I want to live there and not here.
August 25, 2025 at 5:35 PM
Rockets, tanks, fighter and bomber jets, assault rifles, grenade launchers and mortars versus starving civilians. How is that in any way a just war?
August 21, 2025 at 6:10 PM
Epping (Effing) Forest's councillors and residents should hang their heads in shame, having promoted casual racism and fuelled violent protests against migrants including those fleeing horrific conditions in their home countries. The dimbos protesting have no idea what these people have undergone.
August 20, 2025 at 5:14 PM
D j trump.surely the most politically, socially and economically illiterate occupant of the white house. And illiterate. The man can barely string a comprehensible sentence together. The leader of the free world? No.
August 1, 2025 at 6:16 PM
Dry fried organic salmon with basil, green olives and fresh strawberries. A bit of a fridge clear but it ended up being a rather interesting combination. What's the oddest mix up you've ever put together and did it work or was it a disaster?
July 30, 2025 at 6:48 PM
Well it seems we are coming up to replacement car time. Looking online I'm astounded how ugly and expensive most second hand modern cars are. Can't go electric as we have on street parking on the other side of the road from the house (even if we could afford a v basic electric car). A banger then.
July 30, 2025 at 4:26 PM
No photo from Rosevale mine this week as I was fully occupied on winch duty as the lads were going flat out. We're through the timbered section (at last) and the adit seems to be turning direction into better ground (maybe?). Photos next week perhaps?
July 27, 2025 at 3:41 PM
For the sycamore gap tree fellers could I suggest that the judge should have imposed three days in the stocks. Public embarrassment, a lot of rotten eggs and fruit thrown at them seems to me more appropriate than what they were given today. They need to understand how stupid they were.

The IDF and Netanyahu are now totally out of control. They cannot continue killing gazans and stealing land from Palestinians. This must stop now.
July 16, 2025 at 6:25 PM
An update from Rosevale Mine deep Adit dig. We are finally through the old stope (see photo of steel cage for how much support we have had to build) but the way ahead is through more horrible ground if the amount of timbering the old men felt it necessary to install.

It's a blue sky day. Put a load of washing on. 40 mins later it's raining. It's a clear day today. I need to water my and my neighbours veg beds. As I'm putting the hose away just now it starts to rain. It's a gift!
July 1, 2025 at 11:55 AM
So Lisa Nandy goes on a strop about people expressing opinions she doesn't like. But quite a lot of us do agree broadly with the idea that the IDF are out of control and feel licensed to kill Palestinians - men women and children - because of their ethnicity. We must be allowed to object surely.
