right now Bluesky is better than X, but that's not really an impressive bar to clear, because being *better* than X isn't the same as *actually being good*.

People complaining about the push back on 'yellow in games' are just telling on themselves for being bad at video games (or bad at designing them, considering the number of devs I've seen push back too). It's a crutch, a shortcut cheat, a bad substitute for actual intuitive design.

I appreciate the Pop Tarts Bowl - they got a good matchup, and they lean into the ridiculousness of it, so it works. Plus, when you think about it, Pop Tarts is one of the few brands that it actually kinda makes sense to advertise with a bowl game name

Go go gadget, faster train Internet!

Kinda of a mixed bag of emotions over my alma mater hosting... This. Is it awesome? Is it a bowl game monstrosity? Is Snoop the man, or is this jumping the shark?

Also, unless it's changed recently, Arizona was still a dry campus and stadium last time I went back, so, uh, yea... Interesting

Going to my sister's place for a few days for the holiday, and I'll have plenty of time for games, but will be pretty limited in GPU, with my Steam deck and my laptop's GTX 1650 battling it out for mediocre graphical supremacy. So marathoning some older RPGs from the backlog, nothing too shiny

Because when it came out out (~2008) teenage girls were a microscopic percentage of the gamer market, compared to now, where it's grown to... Slightly less microscopic. it's still only 17% of teenage girls, compared to 62% of boys (h/t pew research)
why was there never a twilight video game

Sports broadcast blackout areas are just a super effective way to turn paying customers into Internet pirates. Good job everyone, raging success all around

I think I need to go back to mastodon, blue sky is filled with way to many fucking casuals on the tech/gaming side
December 22, 2024 at 8:51 PM
Casual Users: why can't Windows be more like my phone, easy on boarding and simple to use!?!?

Also casual users: WHY THE FUCK IS M$ ALL UP IN MY BUSINESS WITH THESE BULLSHIT REQUIREMENTS (that are more or less identical to a phone onboarding...)

🤷🏻‍♂️
I know this is old news, but I am just incredulous you actually can't install Windows without a Microsoft account. Like, it's real.

Usually, the sparks of techlash outrage are some easily overridden usability defaults, or reasonable theft or ATO protections. Not this one. Wow.

"why isn't my date field importing properly!?!?"

It's really weird that anyone give a single shit about prizes handed out during a giant corporate video game commercial
It's really weird that people are framing The Game Awards as "Wukong lost to Astro," as if Wukong wasn't literally the worst game out of the six by some distance.

Microsoft Works and Microsoft Access were both designed for assholes, by assholes 🤷🏻‍♂️

trying Crash Team Racing since it's on game pass... Got hit with a *42 page* EULA that I had to manually progress through, one page at a time, to accept... And then they hit me with a 42 page Privacy Policy that does the same. 86 button clicks to get to the main menu, are you fucking kidding me?!?

Maybe I'd be impressed if Sony brought back the 'Other OS' option, but I certainly didn't care that they brought back an intro animation 🤷🏻‍♂️

I took on a gig for porting a MS Works database (discontinued 2009, EoL, 2013) to Access. These are two impressively shitty programs from Microsoft, but are exactly the type of software you deserve if you're too cheap or dumb for a real database. They're like a how-to kit to do it wrong

Almost everyone's 'promosky' list of video games looks like r/hailcorporate personified. You might as well just say your likes are sunshine and water if your list is so generic it's just the top 10 or 15 franchises of the last 20 years 🤷🏻‍♂️

People posting list of free-to-play gacha games are just telling on themselves as the shitty gamers financially incentivizing the industry to produce crap 🤷🏻‍♂️

Nothing quite like crediting a new game with a 30 year old game mechanic 🙄
I hope future games adopt Metaphor ReFantazio’s hybrid turn-based model. Giving the players an option to one hit weaker enemies and avoid a battle was a game changer for me.

I really liked that.

(I’m very aware other games did this before metaphor)

I'm old enough to remember when QBs slid early because a hit like that was not only inevitable, but not even a penalty most the time. I'm not saying it was a clean hit, but players know that flags don't protect from concussions right?
A brutal hit on Jaguars QB Trevor Lawrence, resulting in the ejection of Texans LB Aziz Al-Shaair.

Iunno why people think posting lists of super popular games and pictures of their really basic setups gives them cred as "gamers"... Y'all need to visit r/battlestations and do some soul searching

Blue sky being better than Twitter isn't the same thing as Blue Sky actually being good 🙄

it's a basic bitch, baby's-first-rpg. But it's pretty lacking in the elements that put the 'j' in 'jrpg' - the story doesn't fit, the characters don't fit, the game mechanics don't fit, the game meta doesn't fit, even the art style is wrong. The only box it checks is being from Japan
“Pokemon doesn’t count as a JRPG” is a weird take to me lol.

And I’ve heard all the explanations, they don’t make sense, I’m sorry.

No, they're proof that you shouldn't over hype your work that you have no chance in finishing during a reasonable development cycle. "See, we finished 5 years late, after hemorrhaging money and good will!" isn't the argument you think it is
No Man’s Sky and Cyberpunk 2077 are proof positive that GAMES NEED TIME AND PATIENCE TO PROPERLY DEVELOP.

WHEN YOU RUSH AND CRUNCH, IT HURTS THE WHOLE PROCESS
