Having a play with the OpenDigitalRadio DAB encoding software suite in Linux. Maybe if I win the lottery and get a few thousand pounds together, I could make a bid for the upcoming Cheltenham & Tewkesbury small-scale DAB licence...

Nice late-season sporadic E opening this morning, south of France, Algeria, Catalonia, Balearic islands and Valencia area stations. Big signals from Kamikaze 88.0 and RNE on 89.3 just a bit ago (Bon dia, @hectorperalta96.bsky.social 👋)

A couple of personal firsts from Friday morning's very good sporadic E opening to Scandinavia - Denmark and Norway! I've only ever received Denmark via tropo before now, and I don't think I've ever had Norway, especially with all their high-power FM having been switched off a few years ago.

Tropo to the west bringing Irish DAB in again this evening, with a nice stable signal. Including TII pings from the Balbriggan transmitter, listed as 500W ERP!

Interesting to see sporadic E from the other end of the path thanks to FM-DX Webservers, this one in Biscoitos on Terceira islands in the Azores picking up BBC Radio 2 from North Hessary Tor in Devon on 88.1 at 2241km (plus BBC R3 on 90.3 and France Musique Brest on 89.4)

...Including the first appearance here of 5B from Mount Oriel

This now seems to be carrying a proper radio service rather than audio from the BBC Arabic TV channel. Just listened at 1500z and both 639 and 720 switched from carrying live English BBC WS to an Arabic programme. Being distributed via the old "BBC Arabic" radio stream on the Eutelsat 7C satellite

Sign-on of the new BBC Arabic transmissions on 639/720kHz from Cyprus at 1300z today, recorded via a local KiwiSDR. Seems to just be carrying the live audio from BBC Arabic TV. cc: @arniedxer.bsky.social

Another one, RTL RADIO in German from Luxembourg on 1440kHz, in DRM format. Decoded from an IQ file originally recorded by Irish DXer Paul Logan in November 2009!

Just wanted to share a couple of radio highlights after biting the bullet and deleting my account in the other place. First off, Iceland via sporadic E back in June 2023. It's always nice to hear Iceland 🙂

Testing out a different tiny machine for my TEF FM-DX-Webserver (Orange Pi Zero 2). I’ll see how it runs but it seems to work well so far, and I like how small it is!
