If I could redo one thing it would be to smack myself upside the head academically and get the advanced degree early. The people that count in tech don’t care, but there’s a lot of misguided gatekeepers that do. I have felt it the higher I go in my career.

This is all because I’m seriously considering picking the sax back up, or going with symphonic violin|cello|viola|bass.

I used to play semi-professionally in college and after for a bit. Mainly jazz tenor sax. I fucking sucked at translating written music to sound, but I have a nasty solo gift.

We were a pretty good Sax section. Another 4 aren’t pictured, but several performance degrees, careers in performing arts, and jazz gigs as adults came out us. Looking back that’s objectively a lot of young talent in the group.

My wife was 1st chair trumpet. She literally gave me hearing loss lol.

That was more or less my problem too (different clouds, though). Only solution was to bite the bullet and go with a self-hosted local thing. The bonus there is that I'm now backing up an encrypted version of everything to multiple clouds, which is pretty much best practice nowadays.

And now... with it all centralized in one place... setting up *actual* AI and analysis should be pretty easy and give me some real benefit, especially in referencing esoteric tech stuff that fails even Google/DDG (for the most part).

No more Apple Book's usage, which while a great reading app, always has me worried I'm going to get my account in trouble because of some false-positive piracy flag. Everything is legit, but I don't trust the moderation algorithms at all. Self hosted solves this.
