Fascinating story. A reassuring one too, having been challenged earlier this week to explain how lab experiments in simple environments can tell us anything about “real systems”. Well, they reveal the fundamental rules governing how evolution works. (I wish I’d put it like that at the time).

This is a nice longitudinal metagenomic analysis of CRISPR dynamics in the gut with a lot of cool findings, including showing clearance of MGEs after spacer acquisition:
