Going forward, it's at least a fair question as to whether anyone who caves to him secretly wanted to do the thing they're being "forced" to do. A lot of institutions are run by people nearly as shitty as the President, and would love to use him as an excuse to be shitty.

If their system can look at the current state of affairs and say "we've got one party that actively thwarts the rule of law and seeks to weaken if not outright end our democratic institutions? Perfect! Working as intended," then their system is bad

"The Founders set up a democracy so that the two major political parties would argue over whether or not we should continue to be a democracy" is ... well, potentially accurate to a degree, I guess, but to the extent that it's true it's nevertheless damning.

Yeah, I think that some folks don't realize that the lack of moderation on places like 4chan is part of the mechanism by which they became cesspools; if we don't stop the woodchipper jokes at the door, the kind of people our laxness will attract will enshittify this place rapidly and thoroughly.

More and more it seems like AI's primary value proposition is unmooring people from reality in some way. Also, I can't help but laugh at the idea of using this to talk to Grandma instead of its far more likely use, which is people finding 3 minutes of footage of someone and making a sex chatbot

Like, you'd think that if Donald would still grasp one negotiating concept, it'd be how leverage works. And cynically you can say "he does, and doesn't care if people can't get insurance and die," which is likely true, but I guess I'd have expected his lies to work around what he likely still knows.
