At a different intersection, where a driver hit & injured an 11-year-old in a marked crosswalk, and the community wants an all-way stop.

MCDOT says the all-way stop wouldn't be safe because drivers wouldn't stop at the stop sign.🤷
Adding more stop signs beyond the one where Grove Street meets Sligo Avenue would be “not safe,” he said. “Whenever we put devices in that shouldn’t be put in, people disrespect them, and inevitably, something terrible happens or almost happens,” Paylor said, noting that motorists can become “desensitized” to stop signs when no other cars are present at an all-way stop sign.

Two elderly people injured after car crashes into Anne Arundel County medical office By Updated on: November 19, 2025 / 7:21 PM EST / CBS Baltimore Two people were injured after a vehicle crashed into a medical office on Wednesday afternoon in Anne Arundel County, according to the fire department. An elderly man and an elderly woman were taken to Shock Trauma following the crash at the Maryland Primary Care Physicians' office building off of Quarterfield Road in Glen Burnie. One person inside the building was pinned against the wall, and another was trapped under the car, according to the Anne Arundel County Fire Department. They are expected to survive. Officials said the driver of the vehicle stayed at the scene, and there doesn't appear to be an impairment.

Two people were taken to the Maryland Shock Trauma Center on Wednesday afternoon after a car struck their Glen Burnie doctor’s office while they were in the waiting room, officials said. Emergency personnel responded to the car crashing into the Maryland Primary Care Physicians building in the 7700 block of Quarterfield Road around 3:30 p.m., according to Anne Arundel County Police and fire officials. Firefighters responded to the scene in the Quarterfield Plaza and rendered aid to the patients, one of whom was pinned to a wall in the building while the other was underneath the vehicle, fire department spokesperspon Sheldon Neal said. Both victims are in stable condition, Neal said. By 6:45 p.m., the vehicle had been removed. Red caution tape had been pulled down as about half a dozen people cleaned up broken glass and boards in the waiting room and the flower bed outside A basic patrol-level investigation into the crash is underway, Anne Arundel County Police spokesperson A.J. Gardiner said. Maryland Primary Care Physicians’ automated phone message says the office is closed Wednesday and all appointments are canceled, while in-person checkups scheduled for Thursday will resume virtually. The message doesn’t give any explanation for the changes. A similar message was shared across the company’s social media accounts. A representative of Maryland Primary Care Physicians did not respond to a request for comment.

Laura Mae Martin Cole was born in Mississippi and lived in Silver Spring. Funeral services will be at Resurrection Baptist Church on Ednor Rd. She was the 16th driver & 39th person killed in a crash in Montgomery County MD in 2025.

With much of the country fixated on New York’s decision to elect as mayor a socialist with little experience, it was easy to miss the news that Seattle has done the same. Voters from coast to coast will now get to witness two real-time experiments in radical governance. Katie Wilson, an activist with even less experience than New York’s Zohran Mamdani, narrowly defeated the incumbent mayor of Seattle earlier this month. The 43-year-old community organizer, a first-time candidate with no meaningful management experience, will soon lead a city of around 800,000 residents with nearly 14,000 municipal employees and an $8.9 billion budget. Who is Wilson? She does not own a car. She lives in a rented 600-square-foot apartment with her husband and two-year-old daughter. By her own account, she depends on checks from her parents back east to cover expenses. To let them off the hook, she seeks to force residents of Seattle to pay for “free” child care and other goodies. Fourteen years ago, after working odd jobs as a barista, baker, lab technician and legal assistant, Wilson co-founded an advocacy group called Transit Riders Union to agitate for better public transportation, paid for by new and higher taxes. She says she decided to challenge Mayor Bruce Harrell (D) earlier this year after he opposed a new tax on high earners to pay for housing construction. She campaigned on a local capital gains tax, a digital advertising tax and a statewide wealth tax. Harrell conceded graciously last Thursday. It’s a low bar, but he was the best mayor Seattle has had in some time. He oversaw a reduction in crime and open-air drug use by hiring more police officers and removing homeless encampments from city parks. He was expected to cruise to reelection until backlash to President Donald Trump, especially his immigration raids and federal cuts to local funding, animated the left. Seattle is already struggling and residents find the city unaffordable because it’s long been a petri dish… Seattle’s office vacancy rate is now above 33 percent. Major employers like Amazon, which was founded by Post owner Jeff Bezos, have relocated thousands of workers from Seattle to Bellevue, right across Lake Washington, because it’s safer and friendlier. The mayor-elect’s plans will simultaneously accelerate the exodus of businesses while making the city more of a magnet for vagrants and criminals. For example, Wilson criticized Harrell’s sweeps of homeless encampments. She backed off previous support for defunding the police, but many officers remain nervous. Like the mayor-elect in New York, Wilson wants to open government-run grocery stores, despite their record of failure. She suggested during a September event that she won’t allow private supermarkets to close locations that aren’t profitable. Instead, she wants to require them to give more notice and pay generous severance packages to their employees. “Access to affordable, healthy food is a basic right,” Wilson said. Wilson may be less constrained than Mamdani. Fellow progressives also toppled the incumbent president of the Seattle City Council and the city attorney while picking up two other seats. Only two of the seven council members have served more than one term. There are not many silver linings here, except that the country may be able to more quickly see the failures of their policies — which could prevent voters in other cities from falling for socialism. “I will appoint a cabinet of exceptional leaders,” the mayor-elect promises on her website, “whose lived experiences reflect the diversity of Seattle’s Black, Indigenous, Asian and Pacific Islander, Latinx/Hispanic, and People of Color communities as well as that of women, immigrants and refugees, 2SLGBTQIA+ communities, people with disabilities, people of all faith traditions, and residents from every socioeconomic background.” We’re sure 2SLGBTQIA+ Americans everywhere shed tears of joy, but it doesn’t matter who she appoints if they’re imple…

The importance of frequent and reliable transit has always been evident and articulated in your past budgets. Service improvements such as the Great Seneca Transit Network and the Bus Priority Program - Minor Projects are examples of what Montgomery County can do when determined to improve the lives of our residents. Right now, our residents are threatened by precarity due to destructive federal policy and rising costs. A recent Washington Post article reported monthly payments even for used cars can be $1,000, and that is not counting insurance and gas. More than ever our fellow community members need transportation choices as they seek new jobs, retrain, and obtain necessities such as food. Access to transportation will determine the boundaries of where residents can seek new opportunities. This is why the Action Committee for Transit (ACT) believes the transit improvements below are urgently needed. Express Buses on Planned Bus Rapid Transit Routes Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) has great potential, but we must not lose sight of the two essential characteristics of good bus service - frequency and reliability. Residents need more frequent transit options now instead of waiting for promises in the out years of capital budgets to be fulfilled. Montgomery County would be better off running interim express buses now on planned BRT routes in a painted bus lane. The success of the once temporary but now permanent Georgia Avenue bus lane is evidence that quality bus service is possible in the present and not the distant future. Frequency and Relief Buses No Ride On bus should arrive more than thirty minutes after the bus before it. Any route that cannot maintain this minimal service is effectively inactive and infrequent buses are literally deadly. People cross dangerous roads attempting to catch a bus that will not come again for a long time. This service level is the first step on the way to headways that will be 15-20 minutes at maximum in the future. Frequency should be pr… Build the Purple Line Sidewalks On July 14, 2025, MCDOT rejected the complete construction of the Takoma-Langley Purple Line Station sidewalk proposal due to a lack of community support. In addition to ambiguous fears about “stranger danger” cited in the letter, the letter stated the Purple Line budget does not have sufficient money to construct all the sidewalks recommended in the 2021 Purple Line Access Study. The letter is enclosed for your reference. The Purple Line project has been painful to residents enduring construction for years and residents waiting for the freedom this transit option will offer. Montgomery County is at risk of not fully taking advantage of the opportunities presented by the Purple Line if people cannot safely access the stops. We must not argue block by block over the pedestrian and bike safety improvements required for an over 80% completed mass transit project. Fully fund the Takoma-Langley Purple Line sidewalks and all other sidewalks needed to ensure people can safely access the Purple Line. Not building them means Montgomery County will prioritize vague “stranger danger” fears and choose the continued loss of lives and limbs. Fund Mid-Day MARC Service Now that the M-83 Highway has been removed from the Master Plan of Highways and Transitways (MPOHT), Montgomery County needs to take action to address the paucity of transit options facing our upcounty residents. Montgomery County needs to take the lead and use our money as was done in the past with state highway projects to start mid-day MARC train service to improve the traveling time between up and down county. ACT acknowledges that this upcoming budget cycle will be the financially hardest one of your two terms in office. Nevertheless, more people will be unable to afford a private car and maintain it under the current circumstances.
