Great quotation from our chair @tah.bsky.social and other transit leaders in this article from The Beacon about transit challenges ahead of the World Cup in Kansas City next year.

Bottom line: we don't fund transit enough. The region needs a better funding model:

As World Cup demands loom, transit leaders face hard decisions to pay for extra bus service
Kansas City has been asking the state and federal government for financial help to pay for extra buses during the World Cup. The clock is ticking, and the transit agency hasn’t gotten a dime.

Charlotte's transport referendum has won.

1% sales tax increase is expected to generate $19 billion/20 years, funding:
—Transit (40%): Red Line commuter rail, Silver Line light rail, Gold Line extension, Blue Line extension
—Road projects (40%)
—Bus improvements, creating frequent bus network (20%)
Just with early vote reporting, Charlotte's transportation sales tax referendum is currently up 55–45%. But I caution this is just the early vote!

US House Transport & Infra Cmte Chair Rep. Sam Graves (R-MO) said about the planned 2026 transport law: "It’s gonna be a traditional highway bill — that means building roads & bridges, laying asphalt... We’re not gonna be spending money on murals & train stations or bike paths or walking paths."

Good morning!

Last night, Illinois’ legislature passed a law, SB2111, which will fund a major expansion of service for the Chicago region’s transit systems, thanks to new revenue sources.

The law also takes a major step forward in coordination between agencies.

What this poll demonstrates is simple: investing in public #transit is not only good policy; it's also good politics.

It's past time the KC region get on board with funding this public good. @kcrta.bsky.social is ready to come to the table and work with partners across the region to make it happen.
Kansas City Regional Transit Alliance Vice Chair Michael Kelley says the poll shows that people across the metro will support public transit if their local governments invest in it, especially at a time when the state and federal governments are pulling back transit funding.
Voters across the Kansas City metro support a sales tax for better bus service, new poll finds
A new poll from the Kansas City Regional Transit Alliance found that voters in four counties across the metro would support a regional sales tax dedicated to bus service, even as soon as next year.
