Isn’t the portrayal of the pre-streaming world a little overly rose tinted? There was a lot of junk released in theaters and direct-to-tv back in the before times.

Pre-Netflix entertainment capitalists were driven more by greed than art too …

I wonder if a traditional website is the most effective format today? Deliver the content in short form video snippets? (TikTok) Something interactive, like social media polls or a “swipe left/swipe right” quiz to train ppl to call BS?

Can we make this easier on the user? i.e., introduce a mechanism using cnames or something to have multiple domains associated with the same user? Or introduce some notion of signing a handle so eg I can keep acm.bsky.social but show it’s owned by the same person who owns abhijit.io?

I bet a lot will depend on Bluesky being the place communities/experts relevant to reporters’ beats live. I wonder if any newsrooms are using deck.blue?

For humans, the product *is* the protocol! So the product experience is certainly paramount.

But I do think putting careful thought into protocol/foundations is important. One reason product dev got so slow & hard at Twitter was the spaghetti of the platform.

Just need to find the right balance

I have noticed some “yet another social network” fatigue among folks who’ve been trying the other alternatives though. I wonder how long it will be until cross-protocol clients emerge.
