Trans Day of Remembrance is a somber reminder of the impacts pervasive transphobia and an epidemic of violence bring to our trans community. Our gender identity should never make us a target.

This day also reminds us of our responsibility to keep each other safe and speak out against injustice.

As Idaho's elected officials continue bullying the trans community through legislation and harmful rhetoric, we cannot ignore a harsh reality: trans people face violence at rates four times higher than cisgender people.

We cannot look away from what happened in Wilder, Idaho. This was a violent display of government power over civilians.

And we agree with the Statesman that such an egregious use of force would not happen at a non-Latino event anywhere in Idaho.

Idahoans deserve accountability about what happened in Wilder on October 19, and we are not getting it.

This is the truth: Hundreds of innocent people, including children, were harmed at the hands of our government.

More than 100 Idahoans are still detained, and many loved ones are left without answers.
Governor Brad Little, you owe us an explanation for why you used taxpayer dollars to terrorize and humiliate families at a community event.

Children and people with disabilities were zip-tied.
October 22, 2025 at 1:40 AM
Of the approximately 400 people at the event, only 5 have been charged in connection with the unlicensed betting.

The governor's statement celebrates hundreds of innocent people, including children, being zip-tied and detained as a success for justice because five people were allegedly engaging in illegal gambling. We think that's despicable.

Why would that be a threat to book banners? If they don't want their children to read these books, they could simply bar their children from accessing them. Why disallow anyone to read these books? Why do they have the need to control what information is available to everyone?

With the onslaught against DEI (diversity, equity, and inclusion) in both K-12 and colleges/universities, we're seeing blatant censorship of topics some people simply don't like, such as an understanding of racism and acceptance for LGBTQ+ identities.
October 6, 2025 at 6:29 PM
But as we look at age-appropriate books that are being banned, we can't help but notice a pattern of themes that tie them together:
✅ Exploration of gender and sexuality
✅ Discussion of systemic racism
✅ Criticism of oppressive systems in America
October 6, 2025 at 6:29 PM
Their justification is to protect young children from reading something obscene. But many books on the banned book list are lengthy chapter books dealing with heavy issues that are beyond a child's reading level, written to bring out the humanity, hypocrisy, and societal issues in the book's themes.
October 6, 2025 at 6:29 PM
Why is banning books dangerous?

Of course it's an attack on the freedom of speech, expression, and academic freedom. But let's go a bit deeper and ask ourselves, why would book banners feel the need to control speech, art, and academic freedom?

A response to this brief is expected by Monday, October 27. After that, Judge Hanen will decide whether there will be a hearing or if he will make a decision based on the filings. No specific timeline for the decision has been provided yet. We will continue providing updates as they come along.
