Oh also, from the footage I've seen they do similar stuff with "Gunstar Heroes" and other games by Treasure. Even the GBA version of GH got referenced with that giant Syntax spider in FP2.

Weird take incoming but I feel like 1 had the advantage over 2 in this respect. While 2 tries to feel MORE like its own game, that ends up making the references feel more jarring (to me at least).
Not to say the referencing is BAD, I just feel FP1's more derivative look felt more consistent.
