Will this hurt the hitters, in terms of postseason awards? Those seem more likely to go to the stars of one-woman teams where one hitter gets all the kills.

Umm. It's a joke. "Because plants are sessile" is a tiring phrase to read (like nobody knows that). Saying they don't have flight as an option is an alternative phrasing that I thought was funny, but your mileage may vary.
