NEW: Texas AG Ken Paxton filed a brief arguing that his divorce proceeding—that may reveal relevant information about his conduct and character, and which CfA filed a motion to unseal—should remain hidden from public view.

In response, CfA issued the following statement:

Judge Fitzpatrick’s rundown of the timing of the second indictment, returned just minutes after the failed first one, suggests Ms. Halligan may have filed it under false pretenses.
November 19, 2025 at 1:27 PM
Judge Fitzpatrick also states that Ms. Halligan “suggested to the grand jury that they did not have to rely only on the record before them to determine probable cause but could be assured the government had more evidence–perhaps better evidence–that would be presented at trial.”
November 19, 2025 at 1:27 PM
Judge Fitzpatrick describes one instance where Ms. Halligan suggested to the grand jury that, rather than the government bearing the burden of proving Mr. Comey’s guilt,” it was up to Mr. Comey to prove his innocence.
November 19, 2025 at 1:27 PM
NEW: In a ruling requiring the DOJ to produce all grand jury materials used to secure an indictment of James Comey, Judge Fitzpatrick found Interim U.S. Attorney Lindsey Halligan made “fundamental and highly prejudicial” misstatements of the law—echoing concerns raised in CfA’s bar complaint.
November 19, 2025 at 1:27 PM
Comey oversaw the FBI investigation into President Trump’s 2016 campaign, and James launched a civil fraud case against Trump and his company in 2022. Furious about both, Trump has viewed them among his top political enemies and has openly called for retaliatory investigations.

NEW: Today, CfA asked the DC and Maryland bars to investigate whether Brendan Carr’s recent threats to broadcasters violated their Rules of Professional Conduct, by which all lawyers must abide.
September 23, 2025 at 3:12 PM
NEW: CfA called on the DOJ to investigate potential mortgage fraud violations by Labor Sec. Lori Chavez-DeRemer, Transportation Sec. Sean Duffy, EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin, and Texas AG Ken Paxton, citing evidence each has claimed primary residence on more than 1 home.
September 9, 2025 at 2:21 PM
NEW: CfA filed to unseal the divorce records of Texas AG Ken Paxton and State Senator Angela Paxton—asserting that any embarrassment they may be seeking to prevent doesn't overcome the public’s overriding interest in knowing relevant info about their elected officials.

This week, CfA filed a bar complaint with the New York Attorney Grievance Committee asking for an investigation into John Sarcone III, the Acting U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of New York, for actions that appear to violate the bar's Rules of Professional Conduct.

CfA’s complaint outlines, in detail, how Ms. Habba’s conduct with respect to the charges brought against Mayor Baraka and Rep. McIver, and the announced investigations into Governor Murphy and Attorney General Platkin may violate multiple Rules of Professional Conduct (RPC).
June 25, 2025 at 11:57 AM
NEW: CfA has asked for an investigation of Alina Habba for potential violations of New Jersey bar rules related to her ordering the arrest of Newark Mayor Ras Baraka, prosecution of Rep. LaMonica McIver, and announcing a criminal investigation into NJ Gov. Phil Murphy and AG Matt Platkin.

NEW: CfA is seeking comms around the FTC’s unprecedented intervention in Texas v. BlackRock, State Street, and Vanguard—in which Texas and twelve other states claim the three asset managers used their holdings in coal companies to pressure those companies to adopt ESG goals.

In Montana, before passing a bill that would insulate crisis pregnancy centers from most state regulations, GOP lawmakers made sure to strip the bill of an amendment that would have required centers to keep client data safe and secure.

Another Google AI Overview advanced the CPC talking point that having an ultrasound as a first step can “prevent unnecessary abortions” by identifying an unwanted pregnancy that looks set to miscarry and terminate on its own, thus saving a woman money.
April 17, 2025 at 3:32 PM
CfA’s investigation also suggests that Google may be adding to the misinformation around the necessity of pre-abortion ultrasounds by relying heavily on CPC talking points to generate some of its recently introduced, top of page “AI Overviews” in search results.
April 17, 2025 at 3:32 PM
Some of the CPCs explicitly cited their state’s pre-abortion ultrasound law, implying that *their* ultrasound services can help women satisfy the requirement. Others implied they could satisfy requirements imposed by abortion pill providers.

But this is not true.
April 17, 2025 at 3:32 PM
CfA created Google accounts simulating 20-year-old women searching for pre-abortion ultrasounds in AZ, FL, and WI and found 67% of ads Google served were from CPCs marketing ultrasounds that don't meet the states’ reqs—something neither the ads nor the landing pages disclosed.
April 17, 2025 at 3:32 PM
NEW: Some states force women to have a (medically unnecessary) ultrasound 24 hrs before an abortion.

But when women go to Google to try to schedule this extra step, they're barraged with ads from crisis pregnancy centers, whose non-medical services don't satisfy the states' laws.

CfA’s review of state legislative hearing transcripts, public comment submissions, and other archived materials found numerous instances where sports betting companies actively opposed some of the same consumer protections that experts say could reduce addiction related harms.
April 15, 2025 at 3:31 PM
At the same time, it’s long been understood that the business of models of many gambling companies depend on their addicted players to supply a significant portion of revenue.

So why would these companies work to reduce the addictiveness of their products? (Hint: they don’t)
April 15, 2025 at 3:31 PM
A new CfA report—our first documenting the predatory practices of gambling companies—exposes how the sports betting industry’s behind-the-scenes fight against commonsense safety measures flies in the face of its supposed support for addicted customers.

“Today’s oligarchs have surely noticed that it is not the independent experts at the FTC or the courts who will decide their fate, but the president himself, and I fear what corporate lawbreakers will get away with,” says fired FTC commissioner Rebecca Slaughter, in today’s House E&C hearing.

Now, the anti-abortion organization Heartbeat International has posted a webpage acknowledging that some of its CPC affiliates may be improperly suggesting that their clients’ PHI is protected by HIPAA.

In an announcement published last week, Texas Right to Life described the changes to the Thriving Texas Families program as “sabotage,” because they would impose “unnecessary financial and operational burdens” and prevent providers from “focus[ing] on their ministry.”
