Some movie ends with "The End".
Some movie ends with "Fin".

The 1947 melodrama The Spring River Flows East ends with "Goodbye".

Here's a spoiler moment from Legend of Hei 2. Surprisingly this isn't even the most hype moment, nor the best fight of the film. But the aura farming is delicious.

Release this movie in the West, damn it!

Yakuza fans who can tell the Amons apart scare me.

Dead to Rights (2025) is now available on YouTube, Apple TV, Amazon, and Google Play. A lot of viewers have been asking for a legal way to watch the movie, and now you can!
This is not a sponsored post; I just think more people should see the movie.

Found this doozy called The Daughter of the Samurai (1937), a co-production between Imperial Japan and Nazi Germany, in which a German-educated Japanese man rejects his German lover to be with his Japanese fiancée. At the end, the couple start a new life in Manchuria, which they call a "new land".

As a former film student, all I can say is... look, we all fell asleep in class. This is perfectly normal.

I logged into Shanghai Animation Film Studio's website and saw this drink and was confused.
And then I realized it's a collab with Tim Hortons and I'm even more confused.

One of my favorite stories about comics is when Captain America debuted by punching Hitler in the face, three Nazis came to Marvel Comics trying to intimidate the artists. They probably thought the artists were nerds. But then they saw Jack Kirby and ran away.
Kirby went on to fight Nazis in WWII.

This is the reason why MonHun lets you carve the monsters, rather than dumping the rewards in your inventory directly. It is a ritual to be part of the fantasy.

But as the series grows more streamlined, these fantasy elements are replaced with menus. And perhaps that's why I fell out of love.

But as a final example: Consider the fast travel system in Ocarina of Time.
Instead of selecting a waypoint, you have to perform a song. It's less convenient, but this little ritual offers a fantasy, which the player has to partake. Instead of dealing with a menu, you are now dealing with magic.

That's not to say those games are bad. These games, especially MonHun Wilds, aim to send the player to the best part of the game as quickly and as frequently as possible: Fight monsters, and nothing else; Enjoy the story, and everything else is fluff.
And that is absolutely valid.

In other words, new AAA games feel more cinematic and less game-y. The agency is given to the game rather than the player, and if the player strays off course, they'll quickly reach outside of the intended story and find little interactivity.
They feel like an Ikea instruction.

It's a similar feeling I have with Ghost of Tsushima. Beautiful world, but exploration is ultimately a guided experience of following the wind until to visit all the "?" marks. I'm not engaging with the process of navigation.

I booted up MonHun Wilds again, and I realized I've truly fallen out of love.
The series has moved on. It's now a modern game where I mindlessly follow a glowing trail, poke the glowing spots, and watch the glowing number go brrr... It's all a guided safari experience, like many other modern AAA.

Good vibes protocol:

Deadful Melody (1994) is a 1994 fantasy wuxia film starring androgynous goddess Brigitte Lin, who does a Tao Pai Pai across the yard, transforms Sailor Uranus style, and then spams PK Fire with her musical instrument.
One can see the influence this has on Kung Fu Hustle.

Chinese idiom, made famous by the movie Infernal Affairs 2.

殺人放火金腰帶,修橋補路無屍骸

Murderers and arsonists are rewarded with golden belts, hailed as champions.
Bridge builders and road workers die, and their bodies are lost in the pile.

The article you sent shows the bear doing a Wing-Chun knee kick.

It was 755AD, the Tang Dynasty government had grew increasingly corrupt. Noticing the decline of the dynasty, poet Du Fu wrote down a 500 word long poem, which includes this damning line:

朱门酒肉臭,路有冻死骨
The vermillion mansions stink of wine and meat;
The roads are littered with bones of frozen dead.

Here's another photo of Ruan Lingyu being iconic.

One thing I didn't bring up is that her famous suicide note, "人言可畏 (Gossip is a fearful thing)", had long been suspected to be a forgery by her then boyfriend.

Do people really think wind farms look ugly? I always thought they look cool. I love seeing them during my train rides.
