The best part is that tech it runs on has been hyped for *6 years* now and apparently is so butt that even CMON walked away from it years ago. This will be only the 3rd game that actually uses it in all that time, all developed by the people who make the board/app. Super duper confidence inspiring!

If there ever was a reason to release an RPG in a limited Trapper Keeper Edition format, this is it.

Yeah, as much as people claim to love At the Mountains of Madness and the Dream Cycle stuff (Kadath, etc), those are more interesting as fever-dream-world-building books than actually-fun-to-read novellas in and of themselves.

It's nice because playtime barely scales with player count so it doesn't overstay it's welcome. And it feels like they dialed in the right # of rounds for a game to last really well.

The most one-sided probability-defying dice rolling I've ever seen! Really great game; the slight uptick in complexity over Tripoli is totally justified in a really interesting decision space.

"it represents man's inhumanity to man." "It's more about what the piece *doesn't* say, you know? The story is in the empty spaces."

Also given i'd guess the modal playcount of any game for most players is 1 these days with all the CotN-itis, the hypermajority of everyone's plays are learning plays, which of *course* are going to take longer. I think most playtime estimates are pretty accurate once people actually learn to play.

I *really* like the way the "Battlefield Operations" book organizes the various examples of play followed by some general meta strategies in terms of "if you wanted to do X, it'd probably look something like this."
