Any situation where I want to copy the contents of a directory without the directory itself coming along for the ride. This can be bothersome when there are hidden files in the source directory's tree for example:

Being able to copy the child contents of a directory without the parent directory itself is handy! You can recreate the trailing slash behavior of that cp example in some other implentations via the slashdot - e.g., "cp -R a/. b". rsync also uses the same trailing-slash convention.

Pipes are null-safe so it's cool to send binary data through them too! And sponge also makes a nice replacement for tee in the "sudo tee" case since it doesn't output anything to stdout. 🙂

It's really unfortunate. Search quality went down as soon as they started pivoting toward AI years ago. You can't even use operators to weed out the garbage anymore! I switched to DuckDuckGo and then Kagi. The only thing I go back to Google for are (geographically) local results.

I don't have a favorite spoon, but I do have a favorite fork! And there are spoons I don't like as well as the others because they have marks on them that are a bit jagged. I should probably get rid of them, but they're otherwise still good, y'know?
