Getting ready for #ECSS

I’ll be talking about exercise for people with multiple chronic conditions and its impact on inflammation, lipids, blood pressure, triglycerides, and cholesterol.

From a secondary analysis of the #MOBILIZE trial.

6/10 Importantly, there were no major safety concerns. Both groups had similar numbers of serious health events—so the program didn’t increase risk. ✅

5/10 📈 The results?

People in the program group had a statistically significant improvement in HRQoL of life compared to the usual care group.

They also rated their own health more positively. Other outcomes like physical function and mental health were similar across groups.

4/10 Participants were randomly assigned to one of two groups:

🔹 Usual care alone
🔹 Usual care + 12-week program of personalized exercise and support for managing health.

The development of the 12-week program can be found here.

3/10 We asked: Could exercise therapy and self-management support improve life for people with multimorbidity, beyond what usual care alone offers?
June 30, 2025 at 10:22 AM
2/10 Managing multimorbidity—when someone has two or more long-term health conditions—is tough.

It affects daily life, mental health, and overall wellbeing. But proven treatments to improve quality of life are still lacking.
June 30, 2025 at 10:22 AM
Exercise therapy and self-management support are more effective than usual care alone in improving health-related quality of life at 12 months in adults with multimorbidity, without compromising safety. #multimorbidity

More often than you might think, I hear on the street, on TV, and read in newspapers that people with osteoarthritis should refrain from exercise therapy due to the 'damage' it may cause to the cartilage.

It does not really seem to be the case 👇

In adults with at least one chronic disease, anti-inflammatory diets lead to small improvements in physical component HRQOL, which may not be clinically relevant. No effect was found on the mental component or general HRQOL. Further high-quality RCTs may change this conclusion.

In 2021 we found that exercise therapy may be a promising solution also for patients with multiple chronic conditions.

After a few years of work, we now know so much more about it and can’t wait to share the whole story.

For now have a look at this systematic review 👇

📢 Attention clinicians treating patients with #knee #osteoarthritis!

A new paper in @jospt.bsky.social from Ewa Roos, Carsten Juhl, and I to address a persistent myth in osteoarthritis management.

I’ll be sharing a more thorough elaboration of the paper’s content in future posts—so stay tuned!

It’s fantastic that the MOBILIZE project has been nominated for the award “Patient focus of the year” 👇 among the many RCTs conducted in Denmark.

There are more exciting news ahead for the MOBILIZE project with our RCT results soon available…

In discussion with patients we should avoid the use of the term #multimorbidity and instead use other terms such as people with multiple long term conditions.
