Just had a great chat with a researcher looking at drug screening in nematode models of mitochondrial disease. Being an ex-fly scientist, this sort of science is my favourite - give me genetics & model organisms ANY day of the week!

Made me think of you & your worms @genotripe.bsky.social 🪱

We’ve been hearing a lot about #mitochondrialdonation today – but what exactly is it?

It’s a groundbreaking fertility technique that helps women with faulty mitochondrial DNA have healthy babies

Zebrafish are helping scientists tackle rare #mitochondrialdiseases like MDDS

In 2018/19, Lily funded research using zebrafish to test treatments

Find out what happened in our latest Research Zone post with Research Manager Maria and Dr Ben Munro

My entrance essay when applying to university for my undergraduate degree was about axolotl regeneration - such a fascinating animal that even over a decade later, I have a pet axolotl and closely follow a lot of regenerative research that is thanks to this tiny creature 🦎
Meet the axolotl — salamanders that can regrow entire limbs, parts of their heart, spinal cord, and even parts of their brain. Studying how axolotls regenerate could unlock big clues for healing in humans. 🔬🦎
