Looks like Buchanan tartan to me!

And then when you look at carbon emissions:

The efficient hybrid produces 9.74 kgCO2e/100km, whereas the EV produces 2.43 kgCO2e/100km.

That’s less than 1/4 the total hybrid emissions. (Saving 75% CO2)

And the EV emissions will reduce further as the grid decarbonises.

So 60mpg equates to 4.71 litres/100km. Which sounds great until you translate that to efficiency.
This ‘fuel efficient hybrid’ manages 44.36 kWh / 100km.

This is vastly less efficient than average EVs that can achieve 4.5 miles/ kWh or 13.9 kWh / 100km.
(My Hyundai Kona averages 4.9 miles /kWh)

Ok - so I think you misunderstand.

The light blue area on the graph shows the Scope 2 emissions from either electricity production (for the BEV) or petrol /diesel production (for the ICE 🚗).

It’s using the same colour so you can make a comparison between emissions from the different fuels / ⚡️.

Do they think that somehow they can rise above the appalling inefficiency of hydrogen?
November 16, 2025 at 4:21 PM
It doesn’t compare.

In the UK a Battery EV needs to drive less than 15,000 miles (<25,000 km) to pay back the carbon debt from battery manufacturer. This is reducing every year as the grid decarbonises further.

When you switch from gas heating to heat pumps you use at most 30% of the energy you’d be burning with gas.

Heat pump SCoP 3+
Gas boiler system efficiency 85%

It’s worth it.

The important question is: will Regiojet still be selling their amazingly cheap AND tasty plum crumble?

Aix is much more touristy than its infinitely more interesting neighbour, Marseille (only 25 minutes away). And I have to say, Aix’s population seems to be endlessly gentrifying and becoming more and more white every time on visit.
I’d vote for Marseille every time.

I’ve visited Valencia & Rome and studied in Aix (when I lived in Marseille a million years ago). They’re all great, & they’ve all got great food.

Valencia is a really vibrant city - with fewer tourists - and an amazing food market.

Rome does still have real people living there, but more tourists.
October 19, 2025 at 7:48 AM
Unless Rome has changed radically since I was last there (pre Covid), she’s wrong.

You don’t get food like this in Disneyland.

Yay! Emergency egg!
They sell hard boiled eggs loose in supermarkets in Switzerland, and it’s the best thing when you’re on holiday there.

Thanks! She’s now 🤞🏽 on the mend, with the help of antivirals.
I’m just surprised that the NHS professionals we spoke to seem to be denying the existence of silent hypoxia.
October 17, 2025 at 3:23 PM
My 86yo mum, who’s ill with Covid, was told this week by a medical professional that “she’d know if she had v low oxygen levels because she’d be struggling for breath and unable to stand up”.

Is silent hypoxia no longer a thing with Covid? Or was that bad advice?

Yes, BUT the Isle of Man banned fossil fuel heating systems for all new buildings.

So they’re not lax about regulations for everything.

Love a good busman’s holiday. Convinced my wife to climb a 40m (disused) blast furnace on our 10th wedding anniversary. Enjoy!

I totally get that!

It’s incredibly easy to stop off at the Italian Lakes after Chur - Tirano, though it depends which lakes and where on the Riviera you’re aiming for.

Do you have the Rail Planner app yet?
I’ve just put together a sample itinerary for you:

And if you want great scenery, you honestly can’t beat the Bernina Express from Chur - Tirano.

I had a similar conversation in my street’s WhatsApp the other month - where some of my neighbours (mainly pensioners) were complaining about the cost of parking.
September 27, 2025 at 10:25 AM
Last year I went Paris - Strasbourg - Basel - Chur without incident.

This year (doing the same route), my train terminated unexpectedly at Mulhouse and I had to switch to an older train to take me the final leg to Basel.

It was annoying but was absolutely fine - I still made it to Chur that day.

Randomly jumping in here, but have you been to the Great Lakes Museum in Kingston? Recently? As I think you’d like it!
