I can't wait to set aside the time for a close listen to this episode of @draftingthepast.bsky.social with @sdgorton.bsky.social.

New! What a delight to talk with Stephanie Gorton about THE ICON AND THE IDEALIST (@harpercollins.bsky.social), a fascinating dual biography of Margaret Sanger and Mary Ware Dennett. We talked about revising (12!) drafts, what draws her to a subject, and more. Listen: draftingthepast.com/?p=2722

Fascinating article about #history and A.I. in the @nytimes.com today. I agree with Stacy Schiff: "“To turn to A.I. for structure seems less like a cheat than a deprivation, like enlisting someone to eat your hot fudge sundae for you.” www.nytimes.com/2025/06/16/m...
A.I. Is Poised to Rewrite History. Literally.

Thrilled to be part of this podcast series, "Stories in Colour," coming soon from the National Gallery in London! It starts on May 28, and the cochineal episode will debut in June. (You can catch a glimpse of my jar of cochineal and some cochineal-dyed silk at the start of this trailer.)

80 years ago today, the war ended for my father.
The horror did not. His truck company transported prisoners released from the concentration camps to the hospital centers.
My dad suffered depression the rest of his life in large part from his WWII experiences.

I'm relieved to hear that Elizebeth Smith Friedman is being honored again at the National Cryptologic Museum, along with other great codebreaking women and people of color. If only everything else that's broken could be fixed so easily!
Regarding the covering up of panels honoring women and minority greats of the National Security Agency: the National Cryptologic Museum posted this today. For now, this looks a victory for sanity and decency.

It's been a chaotic week. Taking a moment to appreciate that the light is coming back. And so are the snowdrops.

Fellow NSA - National Security Agency veterans. Look at what’s happened at the National Cryptologic Museum. They covered up with brown paper the photos of Women in American Cryptology. All in response to President Trump’s anti-diversity executive order.

Great to see that this is open to artists and independent scholars, too!
