When Trump instituted tariffs you could at least think "well, it'll at least help fund the government". Now that he's backing down, that income will go away, but you can be sure that the inflation it caused won't turn into deflation.

How long can the US exist as a country that spends all its time starting at screens and creating content for screens when people in other countries make real things that we use once and then throw away? What a strange time we live in.

If you have held American democracy and its trappings as the highest form of government, I hope you're looking at its current results and be contemplating alternatives. Whether the changes are small or large, going forward with the status quo is failure.

Presidents should give speeches, kiss babies and set an agenda.
Government depts should be controlled by groups of people with expertise and commitment to the law who serve terms of sufficient length.

Economists need to be much more humble. They have theory that can't be tested. Things are generally much more complex than theory allows for.

Much of Trump's power is about control of money. If rich, or semi-rich people were willing to put their money where their mouth was WRT supporting those who resist, we'd be much better off. If the rich can't put up, they aren't serious about opposing Trump.

A top-down government isn't good. The US and most other countries need to re-organize to create governments with limited power invested in individuals.

We need to stop valorizing the military. We need to shrink our military and supporting organizations. We need to eliminate the national guard. It all leads to corruption, violence and death.

Lowering interest rates is bad because inflation. Raising the deficit is bad so higher interest rates. But lowering rates that would reduce the deficit is also bad?
