political violence IS inexcusable — whether it is being inflicted by an unknown shooter or the president. we can’t have it both ways!

if you’re okay with all of that (and more) but draw the line at the assassination of a conservative influencer who has built a platform based on violent and hateful rhetoric, then no, you are not truly against political violence.

if everything feels overwhelming and hopeless right now, you’re not alone. but I hope this breakdown gives you something to add to your to-do list that will turn that rage into action — and remind you that this fight is far from over.

Action 5: spend wisely

boycott companies that made large donations to the trump campaign or have rolled back DEI. its a long list, but here are some big ones to avoid:
- Amazon
- Target 💔
- Walmart

the People’s Union USA is also organizing an economic blackout on February 28.

Action 4: Track local legislation and testify

since the federal government is in ~shambles~ it’s important to pay attention to what’s going on locally. if there’s a bill that is relevant to you or your expertise, submit testimony in support or opposition:

Action 3: Engage with your elected officials

pick up the phone and call that switchboard! 5calls.org is one of my favorite resources. they even have an app that gives you scripts and numbers to call.

if you can, also show up in person! check for town halls hosted by your reps, & bring questions.
5 Calls
Spend 5 minutes. Make 5 calls. Make your voice heard.

Action 2: Volunteer for or join a local organization

in addition to Indivisible, there are a slew of organizations doing the work right in your community. starting something new is great, but before you do, check if there are already activists organizing near you.

Action 1: ATTEND PROTESTS

50501 has been gaining momentum across the country. check their website for a protest near you: www.fiftyfifty.one

indivisible.org is another great resource, and they have many local chapters that you can get involved in.

🧵 so whether you’re new here or have been listening to me talk about this stuff since high school, rest assured that protests do work — but only if they are organized, sustained, and large. we need 11 million people, so grab your friends and let’s get to work.

🧵 I’m writing this as someone who has been involved in the anti-Trump coalition since before I was old enough to vote. after 8+ years of this, it’s easy to feel like the actions I’ve taken have made no difference. but this is a critical moment when they are hoping we will give up and back down.
