My dad, a retired NASA scientist, is one of the authors cited in that paper. During one of my summer breaks from college I spent about a week with him at NCAR while he was working on windshear avoidance. Very important work that NCAR scientists made possible.

I was shocked by how much the spot (which aired during the Series) referenced the British original Doc Martin. I guess Fox is going after the dozens of Britcom watchers who are also into baseball. Doc Martin is kind of like House (misanthropic MD) meets Northern Exposure (exiled to small town).
