This is not normal. A sitting president refusing to call the governor of a state after two elected officials were shot, one fatally, is beyond words. A typical president, regardless of politics, would pick up the phone. Offer condolences.

As an aside: a few weeks ago I gave some constituents a Supreme Court tour & when they showed us the turtles I suggested to the two girls that they should write an essay contrasting that metaphor with MLK's observation that "justice delayed is justice denied", from the perspective of Dred Scott.

The Court of course won’t do any of that. I’m just saying that that’s what would be required to fix this even slightly—along with one more thing SCOTUS won’t do: it must clearly and in writing warn Trump that certain conduct is _criminal and impeachable_ and not covered under Trump v. United States.

Harvard has set an example for other higher-ed institutions - rejecting an unlawful and ham-handed attempt to stifle academic freedom, while taking steps to make sure students can benefit from an environment of intellectual inquiry, rigorous debate and mutual respect. Let’s hope others follow suit.
