There are research scientists around the world looking for sterilizing vaccines for Covid and influenza but so far no real success. Funding from governments has slowed but the issue is that current techniques/technologies aren’t up to the task. Inventing new tech is even harder.

They screwed up by taking investment dollars from the tobacco companies. Made them untouchable by some parts of the health care system. I liked Medicago, but what a blunder.

But the tariffs would be on imports to the USA, not on exports from the USA. It’s possible that Canada retaliates with counter-tariffs but that could have carve-outs wherever we want/need. Smarter to put CDN export taxes on items that USA wants and double their hurt.

I recently asked a local expert why UK eligibility is so limited… she said that UK public health doesn’t “believe” that lower community rates of illness saves vulnerable lives. That young healthy people will recover from illness regardless so there’s no need to vaccinate. Incredible!

Our eligibility rules in Canada are way more permissive. Covid and flu shots are available at no cost from age 6mos+. RSV is available for babies and elderly but is expected to broaden in the next year or two.

I have this wild idea that the Liberal party should sit out the next election entirely. The brand is tarnished anyway, many incumbents have already stood down. Let the next election be between the CPC and the NPD and let’s see where the chips fall.

I think there’s some jockeying to be eventual Liberal leader, either near term or long term. I would be okay with Freeland as leader, but I’d prefer Anand.

It’s also nice that bot accounts don’t yell at you! The best thing about bsky (for far) is that people here are actually “people”.

I went to a book reading once, where the author recounted being a literal starving artist while trying to get published, and he said he got all sorts of compliments even though his weight loss was due to financial hardship (which no one knew or asked about).

I'm interpreting "lose babies" in your post as infants and toddlers who become ill, but I think it's equally horrific to see the rise of birth defects as people are infected early in their pregnancies. All of measles, mumps, German measles are brutal for causing birth defects.

Before we called it “reality tv” we called it “game shows”. The Newlywed Game? The Price Is Right? Just as “real” as Is It Cake or Survivor.

That was my experience as well. I could get them at multiple stores in July, but none available in October. The staff I talked to said they.hadn't received them for a few months. One staff said "now you can buy them at Walmart". So I placed an order with Canada Strong (better price than Walmart)
