Hard to speak in hypotheticals but doubt you’d need the same amount of duplicative cap. After all, this problem is the exact reason the grid was built in the first place. Did you happen to see my tweet ;)

Risks…?

The issue is, the even though the data center load growth forecasts can be duplicative, the power industry’s pace of change will still be the limiting factor to new development

Been on a social media break for the best possible reason. Can’t express in words how proud I am.

Both Momma and the boys are doing well thankfully. Their big sister has been a great helper so far and has adjusted well to no longer being the only child!

basically impossible for me to limit it to four but I’ll try

Hi Dustin, thanks for sharing, appreciate the perspective. However, I disagree with a few parts of this article. Primarily, the bill does contain provisions on cost allocation and would require interregional planning which is not currently required in either Order 1000 or 1920.

I genuinely don't think folks understand what the FERC ruling on Talen meant, cause it doesn't mean anything close to this.

Work in power long enough and you too can be cursed with knowledge of the grid no human should have to know

why yes i model for a living

This section probably explains the issue best. The results are weighted by areas that are constrained already with no thought to how to grid would evolve. For example, there’s little transmission across the seams and it isn’t properly optimized currently - leading to it not showing up here

I keep trying to reconcile these two maps. The only thing I can think of is they made an assumption that by increasing the transfer between two regions, the power stops at the importing region, ignoring the rest of the grid - which is obviously wrong.. And even that doesn’t really explain it 🔌💡

someone should think of a way to price electricity more granularly to take into account things like transmission congestion. idk could help send efficient price signals on where to build new generation, transmission, and storage

YEAH BUT DID YOU KNOW THE SUN GOES DOWN? WHAT DO YOU DO WHEN THE WIND ISNT BLOWING? RENEWABLES NEED 100% BACKUP. DID YOU THINK ABOUT THAT?! 🔌💡
