BIG CHANGES ARE COMING TO MERIDIAN STREET. [Image showing intersection changes] I would like to share some information regarding the future of this road. CONSTRUCTION IS COMING A developer has signed an agreement to build Meridian Street from 153 Ave to 161 Ave. O PLANS ARE IN PLACE O AGREEMENTS SIGNED WE'RE READY TO GO JUST ONE STEP LEFT LAND TRANSFERS FROM THE PROVINCE We are waiting for the province to complete a land transfer. Once this piece is complete, construction can begin. Maintainance in the meantime! We're keeping Meridian Street safe and maintained while we prepare for the full rebuild with help from our developer partnerships.

While not a City of Edmonton initiative, Nature Alberta put the question to Edmontonians on what bird should represent their City. 40,000 people voted and at the end, the black-billed magpie soared above the competition to take its perch as the Bird of Edmonton.

Attending the memorial mass for Pope Francis today with the Archdiocese of Edmonton was a profound reminder: in every faith, there is a thread of reverence for life, a call to lift one another higher.

Pope Francis has passed away He will be remembered by many for his humility, for his focus on compassion, and for his willingness to speak plainly about difficult truths. When he came to Canada in 2022, I was honoured to attend his remarks in Maskwacis, Lac Ste. Anne, and the Mass at Commonwealth Stadium. I was Deputy Mayor of Edmonton at the time to represent Council and community — to bear witness. The moment was profound. There was pain, of course, but also grace, honesty, and a deep sense of hope. For some, his apology for the Church’s role in residential schools was healing. For others, it wasn’t enough. For still others, a reopening of old wounds. But it was both a start and a culmination of generations of advocacy. Later, he formally rejected the Doctrine of Discovery: the colonial idea that gave cover to so much harm across the Americas, including here in Canada. Pope Francis’ actions were revolutionary. As was his life, one dedicated to the ultimate revolutionary and one whom he served, the Christ of the Bible, known to billions of followers around the world. Pope Francis met history with humility. He passed on Easter Monday. A day of reflection, of renewal, and of quiet transformation. That feels fitting. May he rest in peace. And may we honour and forward the good works to which he dedicated his life. A life of service. Aaron Paquette April 21 2025

Hey all. FYI, someone is circulating a letter about pet licensing, allegedly from the Mayor & Councillors. It contains misleading information re: enforcement activity/fines. This originated with a social media post and versions are popping up in Facebook groups, etc as well.

It is a fake.

Motion: That Administration develop a comprehensive framework to strengthen Edmonton’s financial sustainability and future fiscal independence by exploring new revenue strategies, optimizing municipal assets, attracting investment to stimulate economic growth, and enhancing the city’s capacity to leverage provincial and federal grants to their fullest potential. Further, that this framework: 1. Aligns with existing strategies, ensuring coherence with current city policies, financial plans, and operational frameworks. 2. Identifies new opportunities, including innovative financial models, diversification strategies, and approaches to improve the management of municipal assets. 3. Develops initiatives to position Edmonton as a competitive destination for business and industrial investment, fostering economic diversification and growth. 4. Engages with stakeholders, including Council, residents, the business community, and other levels of government, to ensure the work reflects shared priorities. 5. Establishes measurable outcomes and timelines, with Administration reporting back to Council on findings and recommendations at key milestones. 6. Strengthens Edmonton’s long-term financial resilience by addressing infrastructure funding needs, stabilizing revenue streams, and ensuring the city’s capacity to deliver essential services.
