I think sometimes people look at Hemingway and think that guy had a great life and look how skilled a writer he was. That was privilege (and he’s a horse’s ass). I don’t think we need to be pressured into anything, either. I think you have it perfectly.

First, practice now. I’ve been working on building those habits as I write. As I improve what I’m currently doing when I go back to revise, I will be stronger. It’s all part of the act of daily writing. I write 2 to 3 poems every day and I improve as I go. The same is true with fiction writing.
