This is the most serious test of the constitution America has faced. There has been months of debate of whether we are approaching, or already in, a constitutional crisis, but if Roberts doesn’t hold firm here, the constitutional crisis is incontrovertibly real.
Trump’s comments undermined previous statements by his top aides and were a blunt sign of his administration’s intention to double down and defy the courts.
No Supreme Court can permit such blatant defiance to go unanswered.

In case anyone missed it, in his talks with the president of El Salvador, trump confirmed his plans to build 5 prisons there for “homegrown” criminals. Both presidents also confirmed today that, according to them, once a prisoner is in El Salvador, there is no path for legal challenge.
