Just last night in a popular restaurant in La Quinta, Ca, our server lamented the lack of Canadian tourists to the desert resorts and the fact that it will probably kill off a number of restaurants. He’s looking for another server position with a restaurant more tailored to the locals.

My rabbi friend who studied in France as a teenager said the local baker would bring a weathered wood box with 40-50 baguettes every morning, fresh, one for each student. They had to last you all day! His favorite memory of that time

Reminds me when I visited Haiti after the quake, that a woman would buy a 50 pound bag of rice and sell her neighbors small daily amounts they could afford. It was her livelihood. But then the relief agencies came in with shiploads of free rice and put her out of business

I’ve have said often we need to resurrect the boarding house model. Small sleeping room, lockable, communal bath/shower like a fitness club, dinner included, mess hall style and a weekly rate a laborer could afford. I’d very much like to hear people’s reaction to this solution

I spent get covered as much as it should but a low level so staffer having to hire a 1000 dollar an hour firm to represent them can bankrupt them, their parents, etc. And he could care less….

And if you have them all a TIN, which the IRS already uses in some cases, and leaned on all people to generate proper payroll checks, you’d take away this whole argument from the MAGA crowd

Not you, but many lower level staffers can be ruined financially just by having to hire a lawyer and defend some bullshit suit or other action
