Broad rule: under tradpub structuring, if money is flowing from you as the author, you are being scammed.

Other people will get paid *upstream* from you from the book's proceeds, but you shouldn't have to be writing people checks.
Ok, since this has come up four times in the last three days:

REPUTABLE LITERARY AGENTS WILL NOT CHARGE YOU MONEY.

IF A LITERARY AGENT WANTS TO CHARGE YOU FOR AN "EXPEDITED ACCESS PACKAGE" THIS IS A SCAM.

PSA: Backup your files.

Whenever the last time you backed up your files was, that's too long ago, back them up now.

Just do it, just back em up. Right now.

4 artists & 3 scientists created a series of posters to communicate some of the science issues most important to us.

These posters are made to be shared!

We're selling them in 4-packs, so YOU can share them outside of the science circles where we hang out online.

Mistakes were made. I stayed up all night. I'm doomed.

I drew until my eyes were blurry and I was half asleep. I wanted to write a poem with it but my cognitive capabilities have been gone for several hours now.

Reminder:

Can we stop judging people for what they read?
If you enjoy reading “dark” or “twisted” storylines it does not mean you have trauma or need therapy.

People can separate fiction from reality. Liking a genre does NOT mean you want that in real life.

Judge less. Read more

i'm ngl. the sanitization of media, i think, has contributed to the level of pushed-out, quick-fiction popularized by (newly) social media. like the popularity of dystopian fiction cannibalizing the genre, and "dark romance" becoming absurdity-packaged erotica rather than a commentary on the -(1/2)

I will never cease to be amazed by books. Seriously. Just think about it; thousands of people read the same book, but in everyone’s brain’s the characters look different, the setting changes etc. We are all reading the same thing, but it's so unique to each of us.
That is a beautiful thing.

Hey readers if you get my books from the library….THANK YOU! Libraries are wonderful! Authors do get paid when our books are in libraries and it’s a way to get our books in the hands of readers who might not have picked it up otherwise. Thank you for using the library, keep it up! Libraries rock!!!

see, the difference i think a majority of mainstream booktok discourse is that there is a difference between sex, spice, and closed-door. is so-called "spice" suitable for YA? well, in the way that it's used, no. but sex is. because YA is 13-18, and teenagers know what sex is. (1/2)
