I think there's something wrong with me because Jeffery Epstein's opinions on nuclear power are, quite possibly, the most irrelevant topic on Earth but... "nuclear" is the first keyword I searched.

🙏 thank you for helping me meet my daily "thinking about the Roman Empire" quota

I am partial to @jensvb.bsky.social and @lausterna.bsky.social 's proposed metric of "housing frustration": share of young adults (25 - 34) living with parents or roommates (other than long-term romantic partner) + share of middle-aged (35 - 59) who rent: doodles.mountainmath.ca/posts/2024-0...

Rent control and legislative term limits are two issues where the literature and the experts are very clear, and people just don't want to believe that they actually make the problem they care about worse.

but the screenshot I shared is literally showing Novo Nordisk's stock falling. I realize there's a lot of text and numbers, so easy to miss. Just take another glance!

took me a minute of puzzling over it, but I think "yookay-ification" is a phonetic rendering of "U.K.-ification", as in, "the retail & dining establishment of Soho now resemble those on High Street in British cities."

I have never visited Soho or the UK so this still means nothing to me. lol.

If you peruse their list of policy positions on Wikipedia, there's a clear unifying theme: NIMBYism. Dare I say BANANAism.

I appreciate the recent efforts to bring local SC clubs on board with YIMBYism but, again, the optimal solution is for SC to cease to exist.

I am well aware that Sierra Club have retracted their support for The Population Bomb but I think the correct way to atone an epistemic mistake of that magnitude is to dissolve your organization.

Any organization that looked at the available evidence sixty years ago and decided that coal is a cleaner form of energy than nuclear power is irredeemable. Happy to see it self-destruct, for any reason.

Quote from Edgar Wayburn, 5-time president of SC.

There's a family entertainment center (not part of a chain) close to my house with a huge-ass American flag. They went half-mast for both Charlie Kirk and Dick Cheney.

This is in Albuquerque, NM. Far from deep-blue territory so not shocking. Just odd to broadcast your political opinions like that.

"...hastened the fall of the Roman Empire"

Certainly Justinian's reconquest of Italy was costly, prolonged, and did not last, but the Eastern Roman Empire hung on for quite a while. Is the claim that the ERE would have not lost territory in the 7th century absent distractions in Italy?

> ...using funding from a trade agreement with Japan.

This is not the kind of "involvement of Japan" I was hoping to see. We need their expertise in NPP construction management, not their money!

I agree with this sentiment. The universe of prospective candidates is very large (especially with the filing deadline months away). We (the voters) can afford to be very picky. We should have high standards and aim to choose the very best.
