I’m going for “island of strangers” as the day the disease showed conclusive fatality but you have a valid point. Agree- can’t see any way back. They have become the enemy of progress for the majority even they could survive electorally on reform voters- which they won’t

It's astonishing how far neo-lib'ism has infected the establishment & is causing their downfall. "Bow to the markets, democracy is dead" leads to fascism to defend the indefensible. Before Thatcher & Regan invest to grow was normal. We need a "New Deal" to save democracy and avoid Climate Breakdown

(not a Corbyn acolyte but..) also makes a difference in scale between the person who apologises when they've messed up and the one who 'doubles down' and digs the hole deeper and deeper and... there is no bottom to Starmer's attack on immigrants.

Weaponising antisemitism.. thereby undermining such an essential safeguard! Absolutely!
& their whole anti-immigration campaign is inherently racist as Mahmood's recent letter (and her2018 speech)confirms- all about 'othering' non-white immigrants & conflating legal movement with small boats problem

Horrendous argument! The logic is that if only white immigrants were allowed to come to help work for our econ that would be better for 'people who look like' her. It's not an argument about immigration at all! It's race! It simply says if we do the racism for them maybe they'll relent with theirs!

b) it's the performative cruelty that is the point politically and legitimises far right racism as Mahmood said in 2018:
"It is that culture of disbelief that renders British citizens… as if just not if they were immigrants but they were illegal too…deemed illegal in their own land”

a) re 'evil' don't take my word for it:
Chair of the Law Society’s immigration law committee, said: “These changes seem perverse, unreasonable and punitive on individuals who are genuinely seeking asylum.”
Applied to people in the most vulnerable position possible I'd stand by 'evil'.

So that justifies forcibly deporting a person who flew from persecution, made a home, contributed, paid taxes, developed connections, a family, and a life for up to 20 yrs- after you took all their possessions on arrival! I'm glad to say the maj of the country think that's evil! Enjoy your pollings!

The truth is that illegal entry is not the cause of signif' neg impact on citizens, has complex causes, there is no magic bullet; needs solving tho prompt fair processing, legal routes, wk with EU, moral foreign policy not lies to voters & legit racist topes; as said 2018

"... it goes after those of us who look like we could be immigrants. We have talked a lot about illegal immigration sitting at the heart of this debate, but what we are not talking about so much is race"

Shabana Mahmood condemning the hostile environment back in 2018

Does that excuse performative cruelty effectively demonising all immigrants? Take it from one who once knew:
