I had supported Labour, despite its glaring faults, for over 40 yrs and finally left after the "Incalculable damage" speech - but should have done over Gaza before that. I imagine that most members joined to make the world a better place. This entrenched leadership is making things worse.

There's 'compromise' & there's attacking your own voters, refusing to do the popular & possible to improve lives (eg tackle utilities) & legitimising racism & genocidal regimes. Slow, steady, noticeable improvements would be popular, the current path leads to the permanent opposition you fear.

Of course, we must remember that the British ruling class was within a hair's breadth of going in with Hitler, from 1934 to the 'darkest hour'- including Edward VIII, Churchill; "The meeting of two great dictators has passed off very pleasantly.."/arming Fascists to kill unarmed Greek socialists

Should we be surprised about the struggles of western nation states? Everything has its day. The nation didn't 'begin' on a date, it grew as capitalism grew- initially within feudalism, then superseding it. Globalisation is replacing nations, there must be a global progressive response.

I don't know about you but I am desperate for the left to unify and gets its act together. It needs a 'broad church' approach as dedicated people will have differences. But what unites us is greater than what divides! Can someone leading pls suggest those binding principles? Something like..

Unintended consequences- some little boys watched Star Wars growing up dreaming of becoming Stormtroopers and working for the Death Star. Then they joined ICE to work for a tyrant, bully and hurt people, and destroy the rule of law for real! To feel the power of the bully is their point!

Agreed in 1948, the UN Declaration of Human Rights is a radical document - if we actually held politicians accountable to it the world would certainly change for the better (adjusting for male pronoun use for all):

We may find it ridiculous when MAGA and Reform believe they’re quoting a higher purpose but most people genuinely crave to convince themselves that they are being ‘moral’ and ‘good’. The left needs to communicate its moral mission far more strongly- defending refugees would be a fantastic start!

Core MAGA and Reform are lost to humanity, but peripheral working class MAGA and Reform need to be appealed to and at least neutralised. It’s vital to understand what drives them. Starmer and right wing Democrats completely misread their true motivations. The left needs to be a movement of hope!

The full section 5 from yesterday's order - gives carte blanche for federal persecution of any local officials not doing exactly what the dictator wants:

Especially as there’s no way, historically, Jesus could have been what the Christian right would call ‘white’! He was from the Middle East for goodness sake!!

Desperately trying to be more concise (not too successfully I know!). Pick your version of capitalism or start work on a viable alternative!

Of course regimes 'pick and mix' different elements but their core base seems to be one of these:

Just watched the original 'Invasion of the Body Snatchers' last night - where ‘everyday folks’ are replaced by identical aliens who obey central command and have no empathy. Desperately needs to be remade with the aliens emerging from their pods wearing red caps made in Mexico!

Trump is laying bare the machinery of capitalism that previous US administrations have been careful to try to hide and distract attention from- and his mate Putin is as far from a socialist as you could hope for - he too is a fundamentalist capitalist 'in tooth and claw'!

Currently 70% of the population of the world live under some form of autocracy. Liberal democracy is by no means perfect but it's a massive concession wrung by working people from the rich and powerful and needs to be fought for and protected from the likes of Putin and Trump.
