I am more or less constantly furious at the bad people who hurt others. I sometimes feel discouraged, even depressed, but I bounce back fairly quickly because I remember that more people than ever need help desperately and that maybe before I die I might be able to help a few of them.

Don't forget that the top 10% also get write-offs that the rest of us can't. Also many of them don't even bother paying what they owe. The felon removed the part of the IRS that was going after these deadbeat wealthy people. It is totally disgusting.

True but you don't understand income has to increase because the day to day living expenses have increased astronomical by the same 1% that are billionaire and don't pay Taxes due to loopholes, yes those billionaires that owns the food industry, the real estate market, etc.

We need a 2% wealth tax about $5 Million and it should be used to pay for a Negative Income Tax. Set the floor at the state poverty line and a 50% rate. We could basically eliminate poverty and homelessness and the need for less efficient government assistance programs.

They own over 70% of the Nation’s total wealth and just under 90% of equities.

Seems to me that they are way way under taxed. 🤨

Yep, when my income rises, so does my taxes. But theirs does not rise proportionately to their income and we little people are the ones that pay.

It is called by many names: supply side economics, trickle down, Chicago school, Reaganimics, welfare for billionaires/austerity for the people, “abundance”. This neoliberal economic ideology (not to be confused with liberal politics).

And we should ban being able to use stock holdings as collateral for loans for anyone with a net worth above like 5 mil or something. If they need money they can sell the stocks and pay capital gains tax

We need to be taxing total wealth of those above a couple million, not just “income” as they hide all their real wealth and never pay on it.

I don't give a shit what the total number is. The wealthy should be paying more of a total percentage of their income in taxes than any poor or middle class or even upper middle class person.

Billionaires could be taxed at 80% of their wealth and it wouldn't meaningfully impact their lifestyles

Wait until you try to explain to them the difference between average and the median.
The average US household net worth is around $1.06 million, but the median net worth is around $192,900.

Agree! I think most Americans think all taxes are “income” tax. They don’t understand the richest people and corporations don’t rely on wages or “ordinary” income and have a million ways to maintain untaxed wealth.

High earners and people with high wealth should pay a disproportionate amount of the taxes because they are the ones whose lives have been most benefited by the system and will be least affected by the tax burden. We allow them to exist on condition they pay society back generously. That’s the deal.

YES!! The top tax rate was cut under RONALD REAGAN (still a hero to many never trumpers) from 70% to 28% and he started taxing social security benefits to help pay for it

Yes, typical conservative, Republican establishment elite-loving obfuscation to look at percentage of tax revenue rather than the normatively relevant issue of the fairness, justness, equity of the actual tax rates relative to other people. Always trying to run a con, a grift of some sort.
