Ive still not finished processing the layers of this book. Never has a fantasy novel made me think so deeply about race, class and privilege especially as someone entrenched in the educational sphere as my day job. I laughed, I cried, I blew through this book in a madness. #mlwang is transcendent.

Listen, I really disliked this book. It got so close to so many nuanced topics worth exploring like the commoditification of attention and connection in a digital age, but was cut at the knees by frankly annoying child dialog. I was fascinated by the setting but hated the characters #booksky #hum

The Grace Year scratches that itch that The Handmaid's Tail and The Hunger Games left for me as a teen. It's an unsettling story about love, community and the power of women while also tackling issues like religious trauma, oppression, autonomy, privilege, shame, and societal pressures. #booksky
