I’m reading M. Atwood’s ‘The Handmaid’s Tale’. Her intro lays out an America which built its foundation on 17thC Puritan laws + how forced pregnancies incl. rape have “long been a feature of genocidal wars” + authoritarian campaigns, how slaves & women are forbidden to read.
