Related - here's a slide I've been using this year. (this was from a presentation at @massdot.bsky.social Moving Together conference in Oct). On L is a 2018 Ford F series, and on the R is a 2011 Ford Ranger. Both are Ford 'light trucks'! People love the smaller stuff, just not as readily available.

I agree! I also learned that this kind of signal is designed for crossings in mid block, not at corners (like the one in Arlington).

The flashing rectangular pedestrian beacons (like the ones in North Cambridge, and we have a few in Arlington) seem to fit the same bill without confusing people.

It's a regular signalized crosswalk today (walk/don't walk for pedestrians, green/yellow/red for vehicles). There is a detailed description at Wikipedia

Arlington did, briefly, have one of these oddball traffic signals installed at an actual crosswalk not far from the fictional one depicted:

Not only does my coffee shop look like that but (1) has more bikes (2) is at mile 1.5 of the Minuteman Commuter Bike path and (3) is called the Kickstand Cafe.

So yes this is doable people
