#OTD in 1944, the Regiment could hardly field a complete squadron, let alone the three (plus RHQ) it was supposed to be fielding, mostly due to equipment losses from being constantly called forward for offensives to help close the Falaise Pocket.

#OTD in 1940, the RCAC was formed through the efforts of Frank Worthington, who claimed he fought alongside Pancho Villa and had many adventures across Central America. Maybe it's true, maybe not, but one thing's for sure: he had a major impact on Canada and he used a certain synonym for mistake.

Historians of Bluesky, we're trying find more about this photo of German POWs being marched through a town by Canadians. According to the Archives of Ontario it's from the Somme sector in 1916, but the National Library of Scotland says its from an unknown location in 1918.

#OTD in 1944, the 1st Hussars participated in Operation Goodwood, which saw the British and Canadians cross the Orne river into the eastern half of Caen. It didn't result in the promised breakthrough to Falaise, but the 3rd Cdn Inf Div saw their highest haul of POWs since D-Day.

#OTD in 1943 one of the largest tank battles in history occurred near Prokhorovka in the Soviet Union. Did you know that many Soviet tanks had radios made in Canada? That's why the one in our museum has English and Russian labels for its controls.

#OTD in 1943, the Allied armies invaded Sicily. While the 1st Hussars served exclusively in Northwestern Europe, there were soldiers from the 1st Hussars who served with other regiments in Italy. Click each image to learn more about the former Hussars who served in Italy.
